Top Bolt and Season 7 Hype · 5:19pm Apr 13th, 2017
I decided it was time I caught up on the series today. I never watched the last three episodes of season 6 (even though I was aware they came out), so I watched "Top Bolt" today. I gotta say, I was immensely impressed by this episode.
One thing that I noticed from the start (and allowed me to fully realize something about the show) is that OCs are coming around in force. I'm not talking about the characters you yourself create; I'm talking about random characters created for the episode or for farther along the road that we don't know about. With the improvements on facial expressions, lighting, and animation, the added characters bring a new life into the series that I didn't even know I could truly appreciate. Vapor Trails is probably one of my favorite minor characters after watching this episode.
In case you guys have forgotten what that episode was about (I'd implore you to watch it, but you don't have to), it was the episode where OTP Rainbow and Twilight go on a friendship mission in Cloudsdale, specifically the academy. Vapor Trails and Sky Stinger are best friends, but Vapor is hiding a destructive secret from her friend, one that could and would destroy his confidence as a flier. After Rainbow and Twilight found out Vapor was the reason why Sky was even proficient at flying, they set on a quest to solve this dilemma and make both of them better ponies afterwards.
I have to say, I hate Sky, and I still kind of do. As a character, he's everything you really need, but as a person, I hate him. I love Rainbow Dash, but when there are two braggarts in one episode (let alone right beside each other), I cannot stand it. Too much self esteem issues in one place, I suppose. Haha.
Anyway, like I said, Vapor is probably one of my favorite minor characters now because in combination with the amazing animation and the voice actor's great job, she just is a very interesting pony. She is presented in such a way that I care for her and wanted her to succeed. In the end, she did a 180 and went from a timid pony with no real drive except Sky to finally having confidence in herself and her abilities that she hardly even realized she had if it weren't for Rainbow Dash's great coaching.
This episode really strummed a cord within me, and I will shamelessly write pairings with Sky and Vapor I finally feel that love, that drive that I had for this show and fanfiction. It got the gears rolling again.
I cannot WAIT for season 7 to come out. I didn't honestly think we would make it this far. I honestly didn't think I'd make it this far. But season 7 is two days away, and I am as ready as I was when season two came out.
I was most impressed by the intelligence on display with this episode. One of my faves of s6; I should rewatch a few eps tonight before it airs on Sunday morning at 1:30am
(Has it really only been 5 months? The s6 finale feels like it was a whole year ago)
