Boruto: Naruto Next Generations [Spoiler Free] · 6:30pm Apr 7th, 2017
So I finally got around to watching the premiere of the Boruto series (big thanks to Hulu), and I wanted to share my thoughts.
Overall, it was good. It started off with the same scene from the first chapter of the manga, with the leaf village destroyed and an older Boruto fighting the man known as Kawaki. Unlike the manga, it thankfully doesn't jump into the events of the Boruto movie. Instead, it takes place the day before Boruto begins attending the academy. We're introduced to Boruto, Shikadai (Temari and Shikamaru's son), Himawari, and a previously unseen character named Deneki.
Some of the other characters are briefly seen or mentioned, like Sarada, Chouchou, Konohamaru, but the primary focus is on Boruto and Deneki to a lesser extent. Most of the episode is focused on presenting Boruto's character, which is still insufferable but not as much as it was in the movie. He's still shown as somewhat likable, a troublemaker like his dad but without the legitimate excuse. Honestly, I never cared much for Boruto himself. I was WAY more interested in Sarada and to a lesser extent Mitsuki, who interestingly enough doesn't make an appearance in this episode. I just hope that they get more screen-time, development, and moments to shine than say, Sakura did.
The plot of the episode is more or less a slice of life, with some drama and conflict. More questions than answers came from this episode though, with some kind of evil presence showing up and Boruto having something similar but not quite the Byakugan show up in his right eye.
Overall, I think it was a good episode. Good intro, good animation, funny moments. Not exactly earth-shattering or action-packed, but still good. Honestly, as long as the adapt the Sarada gaiden where she meets her dad, I'll be happy. Looking forward to more!
My favorite character is chocho because she eats so much and perform the human boulder attack.
