Let's talk about Zelda *BotW Spoilers* · 10:56am Mar 28th, 2017
So... you might have noticed that I have been a tad quiet lately. Well, work is an inverse b'tch as it pays me to get screwed over and over again.
Jokes aside, I want to vent a little and I thought the best way to do that is to write about something that I love: Zelda
The new Zelda is fresh, a bit weird and completely unexpected. I was worried that I would hate this Zelda but after a while, this Zelda grew on me. Sure, Zelda looks a bit odd, is not as big as in the past or has as much direct impact but... oh, what?
No, not the game! The game is great, I'm talking about Princess Zelda of Hyrule! (SEE WHAT I DID THERE? Still got it, baby!)
As I was saying: This Zelda caught me off guard. She is obviously a brisk departure from the sneaky, cunning and wise princess of OoT, the amazing pirate of WW, the sleeping damsel of AoL or Miss not appearing in this game from most of the spin-offs. This time we almost have a complete role-reversal. Link is constantly portrayed as a strong, reliable and mighty individual. Oot and WW Link were kids that hardly managed to get things done in the beginning. In BotW, it's obvious from the start that Link will safe the day and basically everyone believes in him from the moment you start.
This Zelda on the other hand comes off as fragile, overburdened and completely lost. I was a tad worried about the portrayal being sexist and turning her into some weak, quivering flower. But then I found a certain memory(with a frog) and I finally understood what they are going for! This Zelda is a MASSIVE NERD! Seriously, give her science or old tech or weird frogs and she blooms, talks happily and eagerly and just loves to test and understand. Get It? For once, she is that part of Wisdom that prefers to study and learn and not the kind that rules a kingdom. And I really like it, because it is a Zelda we have never seen before. Worried, uncertain but so delightfully fresh.
Oh... and the Gerudos are back and Burliana is my new waifu.
