Welp! I've finished The Prisoner of Zebra!
It's twice the length of Inoculation, and took considerably longer than that to write ... and I'm fairly certain it'll only get a fraction of that story's views. But, really, I guess that's alright in the grander scheme of things. I mean, it's not like I'm getting paid for any of this junk (as I'm fairly certain if I did hop on the Patreon bandwagon, writing wouldn't be nearly as fun). And really, while I enjoy writing just about any pony fic, I'm feeling particularly proud of The Prisoner of Zebra-- I set out to do something quirky and different, aping the style of one of my favorite authors, and ... well, I think it came out fairly well!
Admittedly, I wrapped things up fairly quickly at the end there (which is a bad habit of mine), though many of the Flashman Papers do the same thing, so I'm just sticking to form! Or something. Still, I imagine the Venn Diagram between 'George MacDonald Fraser fans' and 'Bronies' is a rather small one ... but dammit if I'm not going to go for it anyway!
Of course, for any of you new reader-types, this story is only inspired by the Flashman novels. You don't have to read any of Fraser's stuff to get the jokes (even if I do encourage reading his stuff because he's a brilliant and hilarious writer). Just go in ready for silly adventures and terrible things happening to Flash Sentry, and you're pretty well good to go!
Anyway, hope you enjoy reading! As I have absolutely no idea what I'll work on next. Might even take a break to fiddle around with original fiction again. GASP.
I might have to look up those novels now because I like that style. Same reason I like the Ciphas Cain run of W40k books.

George MacDonald Fraser's Flashman books really are a hoot-- though a warning. As pastiches of Victorian adventure novels, they're written with 'period' sensibilities. Harry Flashman is a terrible person-- he's a bully, a coward, a racist, and more. Plus, y'know, there's also the brutality of war and all that as well. Cain is a lot more sympathetic than Flashman.
Alternately, if you're curious about Fraser's style, you could also check out The Pyrates, which is an utterly ridiculous off-the-rails kind of adventure. About pirates. Well worth a go. :)

I'll have to give them a look. I don't find old sensibilities given my love of Agatha Christie and PG Wodehouse. Not too many characters beat Poirot, or Jeeves and Wooster.
