The Sun Shines No More SEQUEL

That's right, ladies and gentlemen, it only took the world literally ending to push me to do it. I said I would not do a sequel to The Sun Shines No More, and if I did, it would be a spin-off, rather than a direct continuation. And I have stuck to those principals... mostly.

We’re a good few chapters into this fic, so I thought I’d have a bit of a talk about it!

Well that update schedule went to hell Hey all! So I hope we were all satisfied! Thank you guys so much for all the kind words you’ve sent, when I first had the idea for this I had no idea it would gain such an intelligent group of followers! You guys really took this seriously, I've been watching you guys get into full conversations in the comment section, I've loved it! (Some of you even shouting at each other over if the Dazzlings should be punished or not :rainbowlaugh: ) As I said in my last blog post, I usually do fluffy pieces so this was a real change of pace for me, I’m really glad this had as much of an audience as it did!

After that ending I imagine the biggest question on everyone’s mind: when do I plan to follow this up with a sequel? Well, the simple answer is I don't. I don't want the ending to be seen as an obvious cliffhanger, as I wrote it as a definitive end. The story is about Sunset's recovery, it doesn’t matter what happens after Sunset lets Sonata in. She spends the entire story being haunted by her attack, and it’s only when she’s able to put that behind her and embrace the future that she is really able to recover. So please don’t read that ending as shameless sequel bait, although I have faith in all of you that I'm just over explaining and you're all intelligent enough to see what I was doing in the first place :moustache: I will say that if I do decide to do a sequel one day, I imagine it wouldn’t be a direct continuation, more of a spin-off.

Now that that is out of the way I’ll get through some of questions frequently asked in the comments:

Why was Rainbow acting suspicious when she visited Sunset in hospital?
That was actually a reference to the Read it and Weep episode, but perhaps I didn’t make that clear enough as it seems to be very hit and miss with people :applecry:

Who was the girl Sunset met in the hospital?
If you paid *extra* special attention throughout the fic, you might be able to guess who she was :pinkiegasp: I actually think if I was going to do a sequel to this fic I’d like to focus on her.

What was in the Dazzling’s fridge?
Nothing, just like RD said.

While on the subject, it was actually pressure from you readers that made me include Sweetie Bells backstory in Chapter Ten, as I originally wanted to leave it vague as kind of a ‘this can happen to anybody’ message. But alas, I suppose I did hint a little too heavily about it to not give a good explanation, and I think it made for a nice deep moment between the two, so I'm glad I included it. What do you guys think, was it satisfying having a definitive answer or would it have worked better obscure?

The title of the Chapter 11 ‘The Shadows By Which We Recognize The Light’ is another reference to the music of Madness by the way, and is taken from their song 'Simple Equation'. Again I can’t recommend these guys enough, if you liked this fic then seriously you need to check them out. They’re responsible for creating the entire feel that I went with for this fic, look em up!

This story took a lot out of me and I struggle to write when I don’t feel the drive for it. But nonetheless I’ve got a few ideas for upcoming fics that I’d like to do, most (90%) of them involve the sirens, and even one’s a sequel to my fic A Talk Between Sisters.

Last but not least, another big thanks to Tumblr user Kul for this fics cover story, and I huge thank you to my proofreader and friend ForBloodySummer, I highly recommend you guys check out his siren story.

I am glad I found this story and how it allowed Sunset to grow.

Personally I thought the story was better for having Sweetie Belle's history discussed in the open, and I think it brought some closure to the Sunset and Rarity interactions (as Rarity's appearance at the end of chapter 11 and start of 12 is very brief).

The girl in the hospital is obvs your OC who is the secret daughter of Celestia and Twilight and fled through the portal from Equestria because no one understood her.

Thanks for the plug, and the several others dispersed through the various chapters, descriptions and blogs! I did cackle out loud at how you phrased it here :rainbowlaugh: Let me know if you'd like anything proofreading again going forwards
