Can someone please review my review???

Okie so I've joined my college newspaper team and they've asked me to do book reviews so in short I just want somebody read the review I've written and let me know what they think :rainbowlaugh:

It's not due in until the new year so there's no massive rush, but it would be much appreciated just to have some feedback before my first publish :twilightsheepish:

    Thanks, Corn

    I miss talking to people

I mentioned in one of my last blog posts that I'm staying with my Grandad every weekend. We live in the middle of nowhere, really, just fields and farm land. There's not many people here, and those that do live here tend to be rather elderly. I don't really know where I'm going with this, but the bottom line is I don't have anyone to talk to out here. It's the main reason why I came back to

About Me (Taken Seriously//Part 2) · 11:11pm Mar 23rd, 2017

Hi! So I'm The Corn, and I've realised recently that unless you know my in real life, or you are one of my stalkers, you won't know that much about me, so I was thinking about telling you just a little bit. The problem is that I'm anomynous here on fimfic, and I would like to keep it that way, though I still feel as though there is quite a lot I could tell you without revealing too much about my identity. So, I've found a load of questions that I'm comfortable with answering, and I shall post them, along with the answers below:

1) Where am I from? England.
2) What is my favourite colour? Purple.
3) Eye colour? Green.
4) Hair colour? Brown.
5) Favourite book? It would have to be The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time by Mark Haddon, though Am I Normal Yet? By Holly Bourne, and also the Harry Potter series would come as a close second.
6) Favourite smell? Bit of a random question, but probably biscuits baking in the oven. Closely followed by coconut and vanilla.
7) Speak any other languages? No, but I am learning Spanish. Sin embargo, me hablo poco y no mucho.
8) Who is best pony? AGH! Too many to choose from! I like Discord, but he doesn't really qualify as a pony. If you asked me to choose from the mane 6, I would choose Fluttershy, but from ALL THE PONIES?! THAT'S TOO MANY!!! Err, let's just say probably either Derpy or Vinyl Scratch.
9) Favourite Youtuber? Poppy AKA: ThatPoppy. If you don't know who she is, then trust me, her videos are WEIRD, but that's why I love them so much!
10) Now it's MY turn to ask you a question! Um OK, so... What's your favourite film?

Thanks for reading! And I hope that these are slightly more informative answers than my last About Me post...

Oh yeah, and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask! (And I look foward to seeing your answers to question 10)...

OK, well, that's all, so here's The Corn, signing out!

Your name is The Corn. Do you actually like corn?

4469455 Ah! Good question. Well, yes, I do like corn, but that's not the reason why I'm called 'The Corn'. The reason why I decided to call myself The Corn is because I wanted my username to be MLP related, since this is fimfiction, but I didn't want it to scream MLP because I felt like it wouldn't be very original. I also wanted my username to be something personl to me, so it took me a while, but I thought of The Corn! So then, why The Corn? What has this got to do with me, or MLP?! Well, AliCORN, uniCORN. That's the MLP side of it. It's subtle, but still there. As for how it's related to me, well, simples, the first two letters of my last name are C and O, just like the first two letters of corn! It may seem like a basic username, but I put a lot of thought into it, so I'm glad you asked! :pinkiehappy::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

4469474
There's always a story behind a name. I don't always ask people about their user names (after all, some are pretty to-the-point), but when i do, I seldom get uninteresting stories.

Co, huh? Is your name Company? :derpytongue2:

4469488

Co, huh? Is your name Company?

Damn! I'm supposed to be anomynous! :rainbowlaugh::raritywink:

Also, now that I'm thinking about the meanings behind names, is there a meaning behind yours? Or is it just that your name's Daniel and you like alliteration??

No, my name's not company.

4469506

No, my name's not company.

Drat! I thought for certain I was onto your true name! sollace.github.io/emoticons/fimfic/starlighttriggered.png

:rainbowderp: Well, I do actually have a strong penchant for alliteration, and it's probably for that reason that I do like this name, but it's not why I consciously chose it.

One of my childhood friends let me borrow his copy of the video game Backyard Baseball, and in it, you could create custom characters for your team. One of the options had a list of choices for a given custom character's nickname, and "Dizzy" was one of them. I always used it. It wasn't that big of a choice for me, but I started using it on online profiles, too, starting with Club Penguin. Since then, since "TheDizzyDan" is almost always a free username on the sites I frequent, I use that as my alias. My real name is Daniel, though.

4469531 Cool! :pinkiehappy:

starting with Club Penguin

I used to love Club Penguin! It was like my entire CHILDHOOD! It's heartbreaking knowing that it's closing down soon though, my childhood has been ruined!!! :raritydespair::raritydespair:

Aside from Club Penguin though, I think that's a good story! Simple, but still nice. And I do like your username.

Heh, maybe I should have used alliteration in mine... ClubPenguin Corn...

4469550
I hope I'm not keeping you awake. :twilightsheepish:

Yes, I heard about that, although I also have seen its rise and fall. Being a non-paid member used to still be pretty fun, but I played it sometime in high school just for the lulz and found a lot of neat features were taken away from the free users. :/

Yeah, I'm sorry to see it leave, too. It would have been nostalgic for me to go back to it again from time to time, regardless of the limitations. However, aren't they starting a new thing based on Club Penguin? :rainbowhuh:

:rainbowwild: NOW YOU'RE SPEAKING MY LANGUAGE.

4469568

I hope I'm not keeping you awake.

Heh. I kinda lost track of time there, now it's almost 1?! Oh. Yeah, I really need to stop checking my notifications right before going to sleep. I never like to leave someone hanging though... But yeah, I probably should be going now... I can talk tomorrow afternoon providing my friends don't drag me into town. (Which is highly likely because it's mother's day on Sunday and we need to buy stuff). But if you wanna, and obviously, if you are able to talk tomorrow afternoon we can. If I don't get dragged into town I could talk around half oneish, but if I do it will be more likely 4ish. (English time).

aren't they starting a new thing based on Club Penguin?

Yes, Club Penguin Island, I heard. Though I'm skeptical that it will be able to compete with the original, though there again, Club Penguin has been on the decline for a while now as you mentioned. My cousin started playing it a few while ago and she had no idea that there was ever a Stage on ClubPenguin because apparently they replaced it with a Mall.

4469593
Hey, I look forward to notifications in the morning. I get to look forward to reply to them once classes and homework are finished. You can message me whenever, and I'll get around when I'm able, and you can do the same. I don't mind things not being rapid-fire, back-and-forth kind of exchanges.

:pinkiegasp: WHAT?! I didn't know they had a mall! You mean they put a mall on top of the roof where the discotheque was? :rainbowderp:

4469601 They replaced the stage with a mall. Completely got rid of the stage and replaced it with a mall. I had no idea until my cousin told me!

And OK sure, it's just that all my other friends get annoyed with me if I don't reply straight away. I guess I've just got used to people expecting instant replues and expect that it's what everybody wants. Thanks and bye!

4469604
Yeah, don't worry about me being impatient with you. I was afraid, given how fast you and MS were replying to me, that you would soon grow bored of my absences. :twilightsheepish:

Good night, The Corn.

I'm one of your stalkers corny :pinkiecrazy: i know what you did last night...

Sleep :rainbowlaugh: :pinkiecrazy:

As a fimfiction user, and writer :rainbowwild: Do you take writing seriously? As in, do you feel that this expirience, has sort of put being a writer in your head? As a future carrier? (? For spelling :rainbowlaugh: )

4469611 It's okay. And it seems that going into town took longer than expected. 4ish turned into about 6ish, but ya know...There again I don't suppose it would matter much since in America it's -(googling the time)- half past 2? Is that right?

4470360

I'm one of your stalkers corny

Oh boy...

As a fimfiction user, and writer :rainbowwild: Do you take writing seriously? As in, do you feel that this expirience, has sort of put being a writer in your head? As a future carrier?

Well yes, I do take writing seriously, and I feel like being on fimfiction has greatly improved on my writing, because when you're writing publically, people will point out to you any mistakes, so you become more concious of what you write.
As for whether I'd consider it as a career, well, no, not particually. I aim to be a primary school teacher with acting as a fall back plan in case that doesn't work out. I would like to continue my writing though, as I know it would be useful within a teaching job, but also just for fun in my spare time. I may consider writing a book if I ever get to a good enough standard and have enough time to do it though, but I don't want to be an author as a full-time proffesion if that's what you mean. Though I feel that right now I'm looking more into poetry than story writing...

4470502
You're right, at least as far east as I am located. :raritywink: I'm currently watching a Q&A right now, but I'll be around.

4470509 YAY! I can successfully google things! :yay::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh: And, OK, I'll let you watch your Q and A now...

4469611 hey! Did i hear the word bored?! :pinkiecrazy: I can change that! Who wants to go skydiving?! :pinkiecrazy:

I can take you swimming with the sharks! That might make things spicy :pinkiecrazy: :trollestia: :rainbowkiss:

4470517
That's okay. There's nothing in the video for my eyes. I can still correspond. I actually wasn't intending on spending so much time on videos today. I'm going to be reading some from my life contingencies book and working on my audio reading. Talking helps break up the tedium of the latter two.

4470524
My own blood is not spicy, although it probably has a lot of garlic in it because I consume a lot of garlic. :pinkiecrazy:

4470524 Might be a bit difficult over the Internet unfortunatly....

4470528 Well, you're not a vampire then...

4470526 Yay! :yay: We can talk!! So..... What you wanna talk about? :rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

4470532
At least not one of the ones that's allergic to garlic. If I couldn't have garlic, I would be a lot more miserable.

4470533
Do you like baklava?

4470534

At least not one of the ones that's allergic to garlic

Wait..... :twilightoops:

4470536
If you're allergic to onions, you are likely to also be allergic to garlic. The two plants are very close genetically.

4470535 I've honestly never heard of that until now, but I googled it and it looks delicious! Wow, I suppose I've been missing out...

4470539 Thanks for letting me know?

4470542
You're welcome. :rainbowkiss: But I'm surely not a vampire.

4470541
I like it. My university had some in the dessert section lately. I always buy about half of it. Most people like it with pistachios, but I don't like them, and fortunately the university doesn't.

4470554

But I'm surely not a vampire.

Just this sentence alone makes me think you're a vampire. :rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

And I like pistachios, but not with dessert. I'll never get that, pudding and nuts?! There's only a few puddings which go well with nuts in my opinion, and any other pudding should stay away. I once tried pistachios on my ice cream and that was horrible!

4470568
I tried to convince my girlfriend from 6th grade that I was. :pinkiecrazy: That's when Twilight was a big thing. I read the book, not the series. It's decently written, but it's not my taste. Blood intended. :trollestia: I'd like to read Dracula someday. I do have a fascination with vampires.

Well, I don't like pistachios in any form, so it hardly makes sense to me to include it in pudding. :rainbowlaugh:

4470595 Hey, we once started reading Dracula at school, though we only got half way through and then we had to start a new book since it was a new term. It annoyed me that we never finished it, but hey, I might read it myself sometime. And we did watch the film of it, so I do know what happens in the end. It's a good book in my opinion, it's written in letter's and journal entries as well, so you also get to see different writing styles which I love to see.

4470612
WHAT?! You didn't even get to finish it?
Granted, it's pretty long, which is probably why I've owned the book for almost a year and a half and still haven't read it. I've never seen any films for it, though.

It sounds really good, actually.

4470638 Yeah, it annoys me that we don't get to finish a lot of books at school. We've studied The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time, My Sister Lives On The Mantlepeice and The woman In Black just to name a few books that we started but never finished reading. Though I have to admit, out of all of them, I was most annoyed about The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time since that's my favourite book and I'd read it before I even came to the school, and when I found out we were going to be studying it, I was excited to find out what my friends would think to the ending of it, though I never got to find out since we never actually finished it...

And yes, Dracula is a very good book. Bram Stoker is a very talented author, but there again, that can only be expected since Dracula is very famous.

4470643
Wow. I can't think of a single book we were allowed to not finish in school, except for a few excerpts from much larger works like the whole gambit of Arthurian legend. I was excited to read Nineteen Eighty-Four in 12th grade. And A Tale of Two Cities, which I had to read for 11th grade, is in my top three favorite fiction books.

Yeah, one can seldom go wrong with the classics. That why most things I've read are such. :twilightsheepish:

4470528 i like garlic :rainbowlaugh:

4470531 watch me try Corny... :pinkiecrazy:

4470532 i used to think my mother was a vampire :rainbowlaugh: she's never liked garlic and onions, and she's always into the ghost and spirit thing :pinkiecrazy:

4470612 What?! Why did i never begin to read Draculaaaa~~~

4470660 It's not that we're not allowed to finish them, it's just that we don't have time to finish them as a class. I'm sure that if we asked to finish the books off in our own time we would be allowed to do so, providing that no other classes are in need of them. But of course, most people don't do that.

Nineteen Eighty-Four Isn't that the book by George Orwell about the Big Brother? If so, we were actually talking about that today! We've just finished reading Animal Farm so we're going to be looking at peices of Nineteen Eighty-Four for comparison, since it's also by George Orwell. Though unfortunatly, I don't think we will be reading it. From the bit we looked at today, it seems like an interesting book though, maybe I should read it in my own time. (And now I really hope I'm talking about the right book).

in 12th grade

Wait... 12th?! How many grades you got? I didn't even know a 12th grade existed!

And yes, I agree, classics are usually great reads.

4470668 1) I'm watching.
2)Well I used to think a lot of weird stuff when I was little. I could tell you some of them if you like?
3)Because you were not in my class and our teacher was very gothic so she wanted us to read it.
:pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:

4470673 That was creepy. "BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU" All around as posters, too creepy. I'd probably live underground or something. Maybe in a volcano. Yeah, that sounds nice :rainbowlaugh:

4470676 to be fair when i was little, i kept hitting my head on things. Tables, chairs, the floor, the wall, the bed...

Tell me your darkest secrets Corny :pinkiecrazy:

4470668
Me, too! :pinkiehappy:

4470673
Well, my intended meaning with the wording was that, if we were assigned books in school, we had to read through them in their entirety, and I was trying to give emphasis to that fact without stating it blatantly because it makes it sound like my school was very rigid, and it wasn't, I feel.

That's right. Big Brother, doublethink, thought crimes, totalitarianism, the whole dystopia. I read Animal Farm in 9th grade and again in 12th, also with the intent to compare the two. Animal Farm is a lot less dark and is very pure writing. The main character, heads up, in Nineteen Eighty-Four is a bit of a pervert. It's not a huge part of the story, but it's there, and I wasn't expecting it when I read it and felt I should've been told about it. :rainbowlaugh:

I'm getting tired of typing that name out. 1984 is a bit lengthy. I think my copy had about a thousand pages. But the writing is quite riveting at times, and I'd recommend it to anyone who reads seriously. Orwell uses big words sometimes.

12th grade, yes. The final grade one must complete in order to obtain a high school diploma here. I also went to kindergarten before 1st grade. Funny, people in the United States talk about how many people want to go to college, but nobody gives a thought to how long we actually have spent our lives in school before we make that sort of decision. :rainbowlaugh:

4470687 y'know, i was a bit of a mad thing when i was litte, i used to think that Garlic bread grew on trees, and i think that may have been through the influence of one of my older brothers :rainbowlaugh: Who at the time really wanted to be a writer :rainbowlaugh:

4470683 Well, I don't know about my darkest, but I'll tell you some weird stuff I used to believe! And I suppose that some of them might be slightly creepy...

Well, first of all, I used to believe that Whinnie The Pooh lived in my kitchen, and I was scared to go in there for that reason. I have no idea why I believed that, but I just did.
Then I had another irrational belief that there was a skeleton living in my Grandma's bathroom and I have no idea where that one came from either.
I also used to believe that there was a giant ladybird at the top of my Grandma's garage door, but I know why I had this belief. I used to think this because there was, and still is, a rather large red screw at the top of the door, and when I was little I thought it looked like a ladybird.
I also believed that there was a cowboy living in the cupboard under the stairs, and a bear living at the top. Again, I have no idea where this came from.
I also used to think that monsters lived in my brother's wardrobe, but I think that a lot of children think that when they're small, so at least I wasn't the only one.
I used to think there was giant bugs on my brother's roof, (I call it my brother's roof because it's a lower part of the roof that you can see through my brother's bedroom window).
Then there was some creepier ones that I had, like, I used to believe that there was this weird pumpkin faced guy that would come and stare through my window on Halloween, and I had another belief that there was a severed hand that crawled up my wall to turn my bedroom light off at night...

Yeah, I was a delightful child...

4470690
I wish garlic bread grew on trees. :pinkiesad2:

4470696 yeah i believed in some weird things... but not as weird as corny! :rainbowlaugh:

4470695 Wow... and i though i was a weird child for choking on two coins at once :twilightoops:

4470713
I don't recall believing in anything that was terribly weird when I was a kid. I do remember being especially afraid of the dark, though, because I kept seeing Dementors from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in the murk.

Now I fear more adult things, like rabid animals, meteorites, failing to realize my potential, and dying alone. :pinkiecrazy:

4470687 Ah, I see.

Well 1984 sounds like a good book! I can't wait to look at it in more detail... Apart from having to annotate so much. Don't get me wrong, it's not the annotating itself that bothers me, it's the amount. I wouldn't mind, but I feel that I can't propely enjoy the story when we have to annotate everything. I don't mind it here and there, because it widens your understanding of the story and gives you a clearer image of what the writer is trying to get across, though when you have to pull apart each and every individual word it kinda gets a bit tideous and annoying...

And yes, I know the struggles of typing out long titles, take The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time for example, even when you shorten it to The Curious Incident, it's still quite long. Maybe I should just call it T.C.I.O.T.D.I.T.N.T but that's STILL long, I can't win!:rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::twilightangry2:

And, I don't think I'll ever understand the American education system. So you have Kindergarden-12th grade and then you have college? But you also have this thing called Junior High School which is in-between elementry and regular high-school, right? So how many grades is elementary? Does elemantary even have grades??? And is college a choice? I'm so confused... :applejackconfused::applejackconfused::applejackconfused: In England, we start with pre-school. Then, some schools will have a nursery which children move up into after doing pre-school, but not all schools have nurserys, so those children have to do an extra year of pre-school. Then they move into reception, which is something called foundation stage. After reception, you get years 1-11. Reception through to year 6 is what is in primary school, and then you have secondary school and don't leave until year 11. Years 1-2 are key stage 1, years 3-6 are key stage 2, years 7-9/10 (depending on which school you go to) are key stage 3, and then year 9/10- year 11 is key stage 4, which is GCSE. Then after year 11, you're school may or may not have a sixth form, which is essentially year 12. Though, a lot of schools don't have sixth forms, so we have to go to college or get an apprenticeship because in England, we have to either be in sixth form, or college, or have an apprenticeship until the age of 18 when we're allowed to drop out. Sooooo... Yeah. It sounds A LOT more confusing when you write it out and try and explain it, but trust me, it works. :rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::twilightsheepish:

4470690 Of course you did. You're MagicalSheild, no questions asked.

4470713 Chocking on two coins?! I once got a lego brick stuck up my nose if that's any constellation...

4470723 i'm gonna die with 20 dogs and 20 cats, and i would've had the weirdest, most mad, phycopathic and fun life :rainbowwild: i also cant forget wolf watching. I love Wolves. More than potatos, and thats saying a lot :rainbowwild:

4470732 MORE. THAN. POTATOES..... WHAAAAAAT?!?!?!?!?

But it's true, she does love wolves. :rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

4470727 YOU KNOW ME SO WELL :pinkiecrazy:

4470731 At once. Two coins in one go, and somehow i'm still alive :rainbowlaugh: Although i still taste iron in my mouth but the point is i almost swallowed a nail and got one stuck in my right foot... Oh, and the amount of times i did a back-Flip when i was falling off a chair is just.. i've lost count :rainbowlaugh:

4470736 I will have one as a pet... JUST WATCH MEH TRYYYY~~!!! :rainbowlaugh:
