Oi. Random facts #40+#41 · 2:24pm Mar 18th, 2017

I've finally done it. I forgot entirely about a random fact blog for yesterday.

So here's both today's AND yesterday's!

Pianos used to have keys made of ivory, hence the phrase "tickling the ivories".

There are some plants that either never flower at all, or flower so irregularly that actually seeing their flowers is often a once-in-a-lifetime event.

Before batteries, clocks often strayed from the actual time due to having to use pendumums and other mechanisms of the sort to track time.

Modern clocks use a small oscillating crystal by which they track the frequency of time passing as the crystal vibrates. Same goes for computers, phones, and practically any clock that you can go out and buy right now. Though, atomic clocks use the rise and fall rates of certain atoms to gain a far more specific time.

It's possible to become your own cell carrier. You just need some telephone switching software and a radio broadcasting unit to send a signal. Some major events already host their own temporary cell stations to let everyone connect to the internet.

There were some ancient books found to be bound using human skin. I highly doubt that Twilight would care though.

The idea of tablet computers already existed in the 50s and 60s.

Looking Backward by Richard Bellamy, along with several other Sci Fi books, accurately predicted that we would make use of credit cards in present day. He even termed it as credit card, although the concept was slightly different with it being about social security dividends rather than borrowing money.

Did they switch from ivory due to expensiveness?

wow...human skin...

4462149 Yeah. They switched to wood and other materials due to the cost, and later on due to the ban on ivory products.

And I still think that Twilight would still want to read the human-skin book anyways. :rainbowwild:

Thought so.

An if not, she'd want it for her collection of exotic books :)
