Review #76 - The Writing on the Wall · 4:18am Mar 16th, 2017

You know, I'm gonna make this official. From this review on there will be none posted on Wednesday. In order to keep my five, 5, reviews per week, I will be doing them on Saturday.

Alright, I'm going to promote:
*The Ones We Love - Please don't ask me about it, I'm only half way through reading it.
*(Spoilers) Is Starlight Glimmer an overhated character? - If you want to get into a flame war about Starlight, this is the thread for you... just be sure to get in before the lock. EDIT: Aw, it got locked :(.
*This here article that is useful to the story below... - You should read this AFTER the fic. Before might spoil it, though it may also add to the horror. It's really a gamble, but I would read it afterward.

As always, I will put down my recommendations, but I truly hope that you make the choice on whether to read a fic or not yourself.

The Writing on the Wall by Horse Voice
(Adventure, Horror, Mystery)
Daring Do can't believe her luck when she is asked to help explore the most ancient tomb known to ponykind. But terrible danger awaits her, for beneath the earth rests something beyond equine understanding.

Review
This one is a good horror fic, but only if you understand it. (Be sure to read that link I gave above right after this), The mystery is in figuring out the horror, which is crazy hard. And the adventure? I don't see it. I would call it more of a thriller than an adventure. So... Daring Do. Daring Do in this one, though a main character, does not have much screen time, (I use 'screen time' loosely), for characterization. However, she seems less quippy Indiana Jones and more of a misfortunate historian, I guess. I mean, she's pretty hard to analyze in the tiny amount of time she has. There's also this guy named Horizon, who is a pretty good counterpart to Daring, but he's a plot device. That's all I can talk about in terms of characters without spoilers. The next thing I would have talked about here happens to be the greatest weakness...

And said greatest weakness would be that the horror is a bit too subtle. Unless you know about the topic of this fic, there are high chances of you not getting it. And that, my dear reader, is why I linked that article up above. Me? I did not get this until I 1) read the comments, 2) found that article and read it.

Recommendation: Worth Reading if you like horror. (Simply because the message is too subtle. I, again, am going to mention that article I mentioned above. Read it at around the same time you read this.
