Okay, normally I don't do this, but I ran across a story today that has incest in it, and I don't like that, and I did say to the author, in a non rude way mind you, that I wasn't going to read the story because of that, and then get called a wimp by another user and then another user tells me to get off my high horse and go fuck myself. Really? REALLY? Honestly, that says more about the user doing the insulting than the one being insulted. All I was doing was expressing my opinion and saying that it wasn't my type of story.

I can understand not liking it (it's disgusting), but I don't think you really had to respond, unless maybe they were asking you to read their story and wanted your opinion or something.
4455957 I think it was more along the lines, he had been reading the story for a while up to that point, and when that element was introduced he wanted to explain to the author why he wouldn't be coming back anymore.

People will do stuff like that sadly. It's not cool, I don't know what your original comment was, if the people who replied were just being jerks for no reason or if they legitimately thought you were being a jerk. People want to defend stuff they like, I don't know if they're supporters of that, or if they're just okay with it being in works of fiction, or if they just really liked the author's stories and wanted to defend them, but they were still rude from the sound of it. I'm sure you did nothing wrong but it's the past, try to let it go.
