Okay, just gonna go ahead and make this post because I've been debating it for a while now.

I don't get on Fimfiction to read all about someone's personal problems.

I don't get on Fimfiction to kiss someone's ass.

I don't get on Fimfiction to be called a "bully", an "asshole", a "prick", or whatever else your typical edgy 13 year old thinks is a raving insult that is going to hurt my feelings even though I've heard way worse in my life considering I was bullied myself. If you honestly think I'm a bully for pointing out errors in someone's stories, calling them out on their shitty attitude, saying they're acting out just for attention, or saying that I didn't like their story, then I feel bad for you.

I feel bad for how much of a special snowflake you are that you believe fair criticism of someone's attitude or writing is crossing the line when in all reality the only one that is being a "bully" or an "asshole" is you for trying to silence someone else just for criticizing that author who you love to praise endlessly regardless of how much of a child they act like.

This site has become toxic.

Just to give an example...

Someone (no names obviously due to site rules) had posted a blog complaining about something in their life. I proceeded to go on to said blog with my friend FamousLastWords and we tried to give the guy advice on how he could better his writing and his attitude. We were met with that writer's followers telling us to fuck off and saying it was none of our business how the writer of the blog was acting. Then the author blocked us even though his blog had asked for advice.

Fuck. Him. And if you act like him or his followers, fuck you too. You are what is wrong with fair criticism.

Oh yeah. This site is so full of snowflakes that one may think Snowdrop had a busy day... And they all think the world revolves around them.

Also, I believe special snowflakes are now also called "lefty luvvies", though for me it sounds like the name of those cat-thingies from the first IDW comic:

Sorry to hear you get called all those things. No matter what you or Famous might have said, I doubt you said anything worthy of such monikers.

But now that you post this, I have realized something. I am one of those people. Not the kind of person to call people names or delete comments just because I don't like them. But I am one of those people who post blogs about my own BS. And I am also incapable of handling criticism, probably because I have had to weather so much unwarranted criticism in my life.

What should I do then? I suppose the correct answer would be to stop writing altogether, thereby avoiding criticism from that front. I mean, if something bothers you, you should do everything in your power to avoid whatever that is, right?

Good on you man that's how you speak real

4447049 No, you don't need to stop writing. I used to be the same about criticism, but I grew out of it. The key is to learn how to differentiate between honest, fair criticism, and bad criticism.

Real criticism not only points out any flaws, inadequacies, or wrong-doings in a story, but also gives the author tips, guidelines, and sources to use in an effort to make their writing, and story, better. It also focuses on what the author did right and how they can improve further on their groundwork.

Bad criticism is when someone makes a point to only talk about the bad things in a story. They make no effort to say anything is good, and no effort to help the author improve as a writer. That's not to say you should ignore bad criticism, but you should take what the person giving it says with a grain of salt as opposed to someone who genuinely wishes to help/see you improve.

Love ya, friend. You do what you do, and as long as you don't cry foul about it I don't care.

I can honestly say that I've stopped giving criticism on stories because of the backlash I'd receive, from either the author or the white knights.

>Takes time to write three to four paragraphs of helpful criticism

>comes back a few minutes later and it's deleted

Seriously people like that are idiots. I support this blog.

I know the feeling. It really has to stop. People just need to take criticism in stride. Unfortunately people are to... Defensive? I think that's a good word.

To me, its the signal of a writer who wants only compliments, which I can understand because who doesn't want people to enjoy what you wrote? But when you lash out at the people whom are just trying to help or give constructive criticism, that is just not right. It just... It really rubs me the wrong way.

Thank you
It's people like you who let's me have faith and not quit this site.
Thank you. I am following you for this!
