Will Sunset Shimmer Return To Equestria? · 3:36pm Mar 7th, 2017
As we know, all creatures in Equestria have a double (in some form) in the human world. Eventually Sunset Shimmer's double is bound to appear. When that happens, Sunset Shimmer will have to return to Equestria.
But then what will that mean for the Elements of Harmony? Will there now be eight; Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Starlight Glimmer, and Sunset Shimmer?
We already know that Starlight Glimmer has a human version because we've seen her design released on the Equestria Girls website. She has to have a connection with the mane six because she has a connection with them in Equestria. And she also has possibly the strongest magic in the world (besides Discord and maybe a few choice others).
So it is reasonable to assume that pretty soon there might be eight elements. Then this leads one to wonder; what will the other two elements be? Some people think that Sunset Shimmer's element is forgiveness. But what would Starlight Glimmer's element be? Perseverance? Or maybe empathy?
The staff might be going for them being somewhat of living incarnations of the seven virtues of Christian mythos.
These are the seven virtues.
Faith: is belief in the right things (including the virtues!). Faith is essentially the element of loyalty. To have loyalty you must first have faith in others or a situation. So faith is the foundation on which loyalty is built.
Hope: is taking a positive future view, that good will prevail. Hope is very similar to the element of laughter. Because being able to find joy in a situation will inevitably bring you hope.
Charity: is concern for, and active helping of, others. Charity is basically the element of generosity.
Fortitude: is never giving up. Fortitude can be seen as being similar to the element of magic. In order to use magic you have to have lots of fortitude. You have to have the attitude that you are never going to give up so you succeed at your craft. So fortitude and magic are two sides of the same coin.
Justice: is being fair and equitable with others. Justice can be seen as being one with the element of honesty. Those who seek the truth also seek justice.
Prudence: is care of and moderation with money. It can also just mean taking EVERYTHING in moderation. This works well with the element of forgiveness. In order to forgive others you must compromise and look at things from all points of view. Therefore moderation and forgiveness are two aspects of the same concept.
Temperance: is moderation of needed things and abstinence from things which are not needed. Temperance can be seen as being one with kindness because one needs a temperate nature to master kindness.
What people don't realize is that there is a little known 8th virtue known as Responsibility.
Responsibility: is being accountable for your actions. If Starlight Glimmer is the element of perseverance, this would mean that she would have to by nature take responsibility for all of the things she has done and push through those obstacles to be a better version of herself. If she is the element of empathy, it would mean that after taking responsibility for her actions, she could have empathy for other individuals in a similar situation to what she used to be in. I could honestly see this going either way.
Putting this all together, there will ultimately have to be eight elements on both Equestria and the human realm. And this means that pony Sunset Shimmer will eventually have to return to Equestria so she can help to complete the circle of the eight elements.
This makes you wonder; what is the human Sunset Shimmer like? Will she want anything to do with magic? Is she more wild/ untamed than the pony Sunset Shimmer? Will she also need to be reformed, similar to human Twilight Sparkle?
These are all questions I have when I watch the Equestria Girls movies.
But what do you guys think? I am curious to hear your thoughts on all of this.

4446720 I actually think that Sunset adds a lot to the dynamic to the team. It is an aspect of the team that is missing in the pony world. Twilight is more or less the brains behind the operation/ the leader. But Sunset brings sensibility and wisdom because she's just been around a long time. Starlight Glimmer brings a 'let's go get them' kind of spirit that is different than Rainbow Dash's enthusiasm. Basically all of the personalities compliment each other in such a great and interesting way. They would really be missing a great opportunity if they didn't bring everyone together into one giant team.

Well, or so I've heard, Sunset's element is empathy according to some official sources.
But yeah, I personally hope that the Sunset we know returns to Equestria. We don't see Princess Twilight Sparkle at all after Friendship Games, so it wouldn't make any sense for Sunset to stay if her counterpart still lives.
4446925 I've heard more that Sunset's element is forgiveness and Starlight Glimmer's element is empathy. It makes more sense when you think about their personalities. Sunset is willing to forgive others because of what she has gone through herself (being rejected by Celestia and turning into a demon type of creature). Starlight is willing to empathize with others because of her friendship lessons and her desire to rise above the dictator type of character she used to be where she didn't empathize with her friends/ the people she ruled over at all.
I think it would be great if the pony Sunset returned to Equestria because it would add a great dynamic to the team. She brings the wise council aspect to the team that seems to compliment it well, in conjunction with the other personalities.
I honestly doubt that it would happen but I would love to see that happen in real life!
4447154 I would love to see it happen as well! It would be really fun to see the human Sunset Shimmer. There are so many things you could do with her story arch/ joining the mane six and inheriting the necklace which helps her to transform/ pony up.
It would also be fun to explore the story arch of Sunset Shimmer trying to fit in when she returns to Equestria after living in the human world for so long. You could even have Lyra kind of stalk her because she wants to know everything about humans (keeping with that fandom personality that was sort of touched on in the 100th episode).
I really hope it is something that the show explores because Sunset Shimmer would really add a fresh new vibe to the show (besides Starlight Glimmer's character arc).
I'll be honest, I don't want Sunset to return to Equestria. I think she's perfectly fine in the Human World. Of course, that doesn't mean she can't go there and make amends with Celestia. That would be awesome and heartwarming.
As for Starlight, the more I look at her, the more I think she should have stayed as villain. I took it well when she reformed at the end of Season 5. Then season 6 happened and she only had a few appearances in the show at the beggining. It had me wondering, "then why the writers decided to reform her?". When a episode that I bloody hate and won't mention it aired, I quit watching the show. After that, the episode where she gets character development happened and too little, too late.
I'm sorry if this last part seems like a rant, but I can't help but say my thoughts about this.

4447299 I am personally glad that they reformed Starlight Glimmer. Starlight was actually never really villain. Her biggest crime was running a town in an unconventional way (that many countries on Earth STILL run their countries in a similar fashion to, to this day). Her second biggest crime was time travel. You can't really count that as a crime because anything caused in the past, if fixed, is eradicated from history. So actually the season five finale was pointless. There were actually little to no stakes involved. It was a whole 'what if' scenario made into an episode. But it also showed that Starlight wasn't evil. If Starlight was evil she would have legitimately tried to take over the world or something. But she didn't. Starlight has always just been misguided about what friendship means. So it makes sense that Twilight and the others would reform her to get her on the right track.
I really don't understand why people are so mad about Starlight when she was never actually a villain to begin with. :/ I think that people often project their own expectations onto the show and when it doesn't go the way that they want (even if it has no basis in reality) they rage quit the show. This is something that kind of bothers me about the fandom. It is like people don't understand that their headcanons are NOT based in any kind of reality. They are people's expectations that they project onto the show., And if you do that, you are always going to be disappointed.
That is just something I have noticed about the fandom that I wanted to voice my opinion on. I'm not talking about any one person in particular. But I see this A LOT. And it is kind of annoying.

In my opinion, she would add a good addition to mane six (and Starlight Glimmer) because her personality helps to balance out all of the other personality types. She adds the wise and knowledgeable aspect to the group that helps it feel complete in the Equestria Girls movies. I would love to see that balance of personalities present in the show as well.
