    April, with many a day…

So I just spent from the third through today (sort of, still have some driving to do) on holiday. Went to Dallas to see the Eclipse in totality, swung though Hot Springs for… well, the hot springs, and finally St Louis for a lovely riverboat dinner before bidding the Boyfriend farewell and starting the trip home.

    Well, I started it...

All Good Things... has commenced. I may have a chapter of it up tonight.

I really want to start closing out the unfinished stories, but sometimes you just can't get back into the flow for them. Sorceress and the Siren is one, Into the Wilds is another. Which is sad cause I love writing Azure.

    Homecoming, in retrospect.

Homecoming as a series is a glorious mess. I’ve gone on short bits of fluff, created some … unique ships, twisted the fabric of canon EqG, and even touched on some dark topics.

    Don't you just hate it...

When you can't find something when you need to?

Case in point, I went looking for a comment where they alluded to It being like Frodo saving the Shire for everyone but himself and had to sail to another land to find solace.

But I can't remember what fic or anything else.

    And it's frustrating to me.

    Meanwhile, in other news...

    For those wondering....

    I am working on Truth.

“What are you doing here?” Sunset stammered as she gazed at her father. Emotions swirled inside of her, a maelstrom of feelings. Confusion, certainly. Some anger, long-simmered and cooled into bitterness. A bit of joy, but just a tiny bit.

    Mostly confusion though.

Red rubbed the back of his neck. “It’s a long story,” he hedged.

The Seventh Element · 7:52am Mar 4th, 2017

So do you believe Sunset holds an Element of Harmony?

If so, what is it? Does she hold the Magic Element, or does SciTwi hold that? Should I bring Bruce Willis in to mediate? He is currently relaxing in the home of a 1001 follies, jollies, and lick-em lollies. *guess that reference*

I personally believe she holds the Element of Empathy, based on tweets and references. I'm still looking for citations on alleged McCarthy interviews at SDCC, but i have seen Tweets by director Ishi Rudell.

I sent the next chapter of Chaos Theory off to my editors tonight. It'll be up in a few days. Hope you like it.

Yeah, I think she does. iirc from reading the wiki, the human world just has seven elements instead of six? And Sunset's is empathy. As for the why of it, well, I have a few ideas that I plan on using for my own stories...

I think they'll do a big reveal in the next EqG movie. I'm going to keep it intentionally vague in mine until then.

I think their leading in for a new element. Sunset in the human, Starlight in the pony. It'll either be forgiveness or something like that, I think...

Sunset has the Element of Forgiveness. As does Starlight. It is the element that must first be given by another in order to bear it. For Sunset and Starlight, it was given to them by Twilight.
Sunset has been able to embrace it, while Starlight is struggling with it, as she has yet to truly forgive herself.

I like that idea for Starlight, actually...

4443280
ugh. Am I the only one who'd like to see Starlight and Trixie sent on a mission/do an extended tour of the outer parts of Equestria so we don't have to see them for at least 2 seasons?

4443289

After To Where and Back Again, I think that's going to be a tough one to pull off. I think all of the rescue team of practically all equestrian royalty/important figures it will be hard to shove them under the rug again.

4443296
*shrugs* I guess. *sigh* There's just something about Starlight that rubs my fur the wrong way, y'know? I don't like her or her character. Not to mention, yeah, Twilight did fix it, but Starlight destroyed Equestria more than a half dozen different ways in a temper tantrum, yet got off with no real punishment. At least Sunset had to deal with winning everyone at CHS's trust back, which was difficult and personally painful and didn't really complete itself til after the Friendship Games.

Maybe it is just me.

4443299

True...but we don't have the time gap availability that the movies have.

4443303

Personally, once I'm done with the current project I'm likely going to do a non-canon Starlight nightmare fic where she keeps seeing the wasteland. Kinda in the vein of At Night, only no redemption from a loved one.

4443305

I've read a couple on here and one on AO3 where what she did basically "unhooked" her from time. She kept doing a "Groundhog Day" and reliving the hours from when they got back until 18-24 hours later, then she'd reset and go through it again. Only thing is, Starlight was the one who never remembered while the rest of the world progressed normally. If you think about it, that could quickly get horrific. And yes, I'll give links in a PM.

It's Empathy, I don't care what anyone else says Empathy makes the most sense for an element of Harmony. Heck it makes the most sense when just considering her power.

Also in response to the comments I've never understood why people think Starlight deserves some big punishment. She wasn't even that evil when you think about it just misguided. She never set out to hurt anyone, when she went for revenge against Twilight her intention was to destroy her friendships nothing more. Yeah it led to the destruction of Equestria but that wasn't her intent and ultimately no real harm was done.

Princess of Bacon, Or maybe ketchup and mustard!
Princess of Waifu?
Princess of None Taken?
Maybe Sunset is a Robot in disguise?
Then again, she could be iron, the red is ferrous oxide and the yellow is iron pyrite! Oh the iron-y...

Personally, I think Sunset represents the Element of Forgiveness (I also think Starlight holds that as well).

4443401

It's not so much that I think Starlight needs punishment. Its more like the reformation occurred too quickly for some people's tastes, and I think the writers attempted to remedy that in season six by having her still resorting to magic to fix things. She wasn't subject to ostracization or enmity like Sunset was, but all the ponies seemed to forgive her regardless and immediately. Even Spike did, and he saw everything she caused.

I feel maybe she wants there to be some sort of punishment herself, seeing how her nightmare of returning to her old village played out. Your own psyche is your own worst enemy at times. Luna punished herself because she thought she deserved it, and i have no difficulty seeing Starlight believing the same...so cue a dream heart to heart with Luna. :raritywink:

If I recall correctly, there’s some mention of Sunset being the element of empathy, as you state. I’m trying to remember where I came across it—whether in the audio commentary of Legend of Everfree or elsewhere—but all I can dredge up off-hand is that it was a fairly official comment. Empathy is a good element, though one can debate how much it crosses over with kindness and generosity.
(I still wish Hasbro had kept “inspiration” instead of replacing it with “generosity”. It makes so much more sense as an element of friendship harmony.) :raritydespair:

4443714

I'll puzzle that over after I get out of the theatre. I have an inkling of an idea but it needs popcorn power. :pinkiehappy:

I'm also saddened that not one person has at least slid in "Multipass" since I posted this :pinkiesad2:

4443775
Corben Dallas Multi-pass! :scootangel:

4443669 It all comes down to intent, Starlight didn't realize the harm she was causing and once she did she regretted her actions. Sunset meant to do all the awful things she did it was only after being blasted by the elements that she realized she was wrong.

I feel like Starlight's insecurities come from the fact that she hurt a lot of ponies without ever realizing it and she's worried that it might happen again. Sort of like what happened with Human Twilight.

Oh, I am reminded! Have you seen the rough map of the city where Equestria Girls takes place? It’s somewhere on Hasbro’s Web site, and comes complete with little speech bubbles containing cutie marks pointing at the girls’ homes—including Sunset Shimmer’s.

4443969

Personally I'd expand it out a bit more, but I like it...and it may be used in the future.

I really pictured the town bigger than that. And just what is that place at the north end of the map? Everfree is in the East-southeast portion if I'm reading the key properly.

4444058
It’s hard to tell just how large a city it’s supposed to be, because the mapping is so sketchy. I’d guess it’s supposed to be a medium-size city, say around a hudred thousand, give or take a few tens of thousands. If you’re looking at the construction on the hilltop, that looks like an observatory.

4444062

Well, it is good as a reference, I'll give it that.

The bios are a season or two behind since it lists Dash's aspiration to join the Wonderbolts. It also lists Sunset's element as Redemption, which is an interesting aspect I'd never considered before...

4444070
Forgive my tardiness. I was going to say that the EqG website and promotional materials for Legends of Everfree listed Redemption as Sunset's element at one time. (I'm not sure if it still does.) Made sense to me since she's proved worthy of redemption and helped SciTwi find redemption.
