    Only a fool is positive...

I played by their rules. I masked up, I got 'fully vaxxed' and got the booster. Didn't even go to any New Years' events because I was experiencing what I thought were side effects from the aforementioned booster, in spite of being assured by the online Powers That Be that side effects are not transmissible. A negative test on 12/27 and a second on 12/31 should have assuaged any fears.

    Dog.

Nine years ago the Professor and I rescued a beagle from a shelter. Considering that the day we went to meet him was in the middle of Hurricane Sandy, you could almost tell right from the get-go what a disaster it was going to be. He had just come inside from a walk, so we were greeted by the smell of wet dog and this half starved thing that was naught but skin and bones... he had only been

    I'm no hero...

Ever since the destruction of the memory stone, I have had a number of occasions where I wish I still had it to make myself disappear from the memories of some people. Today was one of those days.

    Bruises

(Yeah, what can I say, sometimes I like making blog posts for story ideas based on songs that aren't long enough to stand on their own.)

    “Beauty Brass!”

A familiar voice called out to me, one I hadn’t heard since…

    “Symphony?”

“I haven’t seen you since the Academy,” the purple maned violinist embraced me.

More... something. Because something is my favorite. · 4:09am Mar 4th, 2017

So I was sitting in Minuette's waiting room, reading an old issue of Wonderbolts Illustrated that had come out weeks ago... you know, the one talking about how the Cubbies had finally broken Grogar's curse and won a championship after hundreds of moons? Well, anyway, there was this Mare and her foal there, likely for the same reason I was... a routine cleaning and so forth. Granted, Minuette probably isn't going to ask her why her foal hasn't gotten her wisdom teeth removed like she recommended eighteen moons ago, but I digress... The foal was galloping around the room like little colts are wont to do. In this particular instance, he had one foreleg outstretched, pantomiming like he was trying to fly. I recognized the act right away, I mean, what earth pony hasn't pretended that he or she could fly at least once in their youth, right?

I could tell from her expression that his mother was torn between trying to calm him down and just letting the foal be a foal. Finally she asked him "Just what are you trying to be, anyway?" The colt looked up at her with huge innocent eyes and exclaimed "I'm a Wonderbolt!" and went back to buzzing around the room as fast as his little legs (three of them, anyway) would carry him.

"A Wonderbolt, really?" the mother smiled wryly.

"Yup. I'm Rainbow Dash!" The colt proudly exclaimed, resuming running in circles around the room and occasionally peeking behind him hoping to spot a contrail.

"You're Rainbow Dash..." the mother said, and sighed with a smile.

It was one of those moments... a child unhampered by rules. Nopony telling him "You can't be Rainbow Dash because you're a colt!" or "You're an earth pony!" or even something cruel like "You'll never be Rainbow Dash, so you might as well just give up now."

The mother just smiled and said nothing, letting her son play. Some day reality would likely squash his dreams with the harsh lesson that he doesn't have the wings to fly, that the Wonderbolts are all pegasi, and that he's... well... a he, for all that such things matter in the grand scheme of things.

For just a little while, though... it was okay for him to believe that he could be Rainbow Dash.

Sometimes reality really does bite the big one, though. Whelp, Carrot Top just called me in... time for my bi-annual cleaning.

This is beautiful.

This is fantastic. Do you have a shorts compilation or something? Because this belongs somewhere that people can upvote it.

I've considered making one to package up some of the Hearth's Warming shorts that I've done as well as other random Slice of Life bits that I have sitting in G-docs.

4508996 Sounds excellent. The ones of those I've read have been of similar calibur. Would be great to have a place for them.
