Frisk never had the ability to SAVE and LOAD until they fell into the Underground, right? As far as we know anyway. And we also know that somehow, without a body or soul, Chara is still hanging around after being pretty much erased from existence in all conventional ways.
We know Determination can cause living things to persevere through almost certain death in high enough quantity, and isn't that what Chara's doing?
Perhaps Frisk somehow 'Picked up' whatever remains of Chara, and the Determination they then experienced came from Chara rather than Frisk. That would make Chara the most powerful being in the UT Universe. And it makes decent sense too. Though Chara's existence is far too vague for us to truly understand why they're still around.
The only problem with this is that Chara states the Determination was Frisks rather than their own.
Some people argue that Undertale is more about Chara than we think, and that they play a sizeable role in the events of the game regardless of the way you choose to play the game. And the more I think about it, the more likely it seems.
