Does The Countess Need An Excuse? · 10:25pm Feb 23rd, 2017
Honest opinion here...
If Countess Magnifying Glass had some kind of Freudian excuse for how she is or what she's done, what do you think it would be?

It's hard to see where such an excuse would come from, there's no sign of bullying or other abuse in her past, and she's always come across as the type who's just sadistic, and from what we've seen of her environment growing up so far, it was too sane and stable for a Freudian excuse to make much sense there.
If one were to come up, I'd suspect some kind of embarrassment that made her obsessed with never being shamed again, as the excuse she uses for her abuse is protecting the family honour.
It depends, how much do you want the reader to care about her? Do you want the reader to unstand her? Do you want some simple black and white morality? Do want vast amounts of nuance? Although some villains are just better off being plan evil and they have no reasons for it.
It depends what she has done and how much regret she feels for it.
4434462 Well, considering she's been abusing Derpy since her parents disappeared, now wants to kill Dinky, the Doctor, Mayor Mare, Fancy Pants and many others and sees as a matter of principle...if she has an excuse it had better be a good one.
4435909 Indeed. I can alraedy see, her head overheats from too much thinking how she could excuse
4434383 Well, one needs a character your audience loves to hate.
I confess I've actually had a great deal of fun writing her scenes.
