Review #58 - Pinkie Pie's Last Nightmare Night, Pinkie Pie Places Her Tongue on a Polar-temperature Pole, Anyone You Want Me To Be · 4:19am Feb 20th, 2017

So, yeah... due to that mishap with my internet on Wednesday, I am having a review today:

Pinkie Pie's Last Nightmare Night by Admiral Biscuit

Anyone You Want Me To Be by naturalbornderpy

As always, I will put my down recommendations, but I truly hope that you to make the choice on whether to read a fic or not yourself.

Pinkie Pie's Last Nightmare Night by Admiral Biscuit
(Comedy, Slice of Life)
Pinkie Pie loves Nightmare Night. She loves dressing up, and she loves candy. Most of all, she loves pranking ponies. One year she goes too far.

Review
This one is definitely a comedy, and along with the little bit of a slice of life, there is a bit of randomness. Pinkie Pie is very accurate to my version of her, meaning more random/ troll and less silly than the show version. The other characters are extremely minor, but what I can say about them is gullible. This one is also quite easy to remember, partly because there are not many others like it, and mostly because Admiral Biscuit is good at writing.

The greatest weakness of this one is that it's too short, being only 1,300 words, for its own good. Now, it probably couldn't be any longer due to its plot, but it just leaves me wanting more. So, good job Admiral.

Recommendation: Recommended. (Because of laughs and quality of writing.)

Pinkie Pie Places Her Tongue on a Polar-temperature Pole by Justice3442
(Comedy)
Pinkie Pie accidentally places herself in a precarious position when she plants her palate on a pole.

Review
This one is a rather silly story about a metal pole. There is next to nothing in this one except odd comedy. Pinkie Pie in this one seems more silly than anything else and is mostly just the cause of the comedy. All the others are just plain comedy, and Spike is the only smart one within the entire group. I actually had next to no memory of what happened in this one, which is really odd considering how few fics there are like this. I suppose it is because it has no point to it, no "so what"...

The greatest weakness of this is how empty it is. Not empty in terms of comedy, or laughs, but empty as in no point, which means you won't remember it much. Other than that, there is not much wrong with this, though it is sometimes hard to understand Pinkie.

Recommendation: Recommended. (Because it is hysterical.)

Anyone You Want Me To Be by naturalbornderpy
(Sad, Slice of Life)
A changeling sets up a secret shop inside of Ponyville. He can be anyone you want him to be. The crush you wished felt the same way about you. The boss you want to just scream at. The parent you hoped would return someday. The friend that's now your enemy. He can be anyone you want him to be. Just don't ask him to be himself.

Review
Well, this doesn't seem that much like a sad fic, but more of a tragedy, or perhaps a drama; but it is very slice of life-y. The main character, a changeling, has the personality of one who is afraid of oneself. I really can't go any deeper than that without spoiling everything. The other character within this are either there as an introduction to what the changeling does, or a plot device. I actually forgot this thing existed for awhile there, sure, it has a good 4k words, plenty of content, however, though it has the capability to bring all the feels, it does not do a good job executing it, which leaves the entire thing feeling empty and forgettable.

And that would be the greatest weakness... that it does not do a good enough job with the execution of the content.

Recommendation: Worth Reading. (Because of that weakness.)

Random Snippet at the End of This Blog Because of Experimentation: So, is this better in your opinion Mocha Star? And horizon, if you read this, which new variant do you prefer?

Yes, it is fair to the author and reader and I want to read the stories now because they're enticing and left mysterious enough.
IMO:moustache:

I remember reading Pinkie Pie's Last Nightmare Night two years ago, and had much the same reaction as you did. I don't know anything about the other two, but Justice3442 is a writer I like to check from time to time, so I'll glance at that one. :)
