My Thoughts On Disney's Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016) · 6:57pm Feb 14th, 2017

This is the most anticipated sequel to Disney's Alice In Wonderland (2010). The enjoyment of this film will depend on whether or not you liked the original movie. Personally, I really liked the direction that Disney took with the first Alice in Wonderland live action movie, so I was very much looking forward to watching the second one. I am a huge fan of the Alice In Wonderland books, so I've seen about every version of the story out there from the Syfy channel's rendition of the tale simply called Alice (2009 TV Miniseries), to the lesser known black and white movie, Alice In Wonderland (1933 Film). While Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (2013 TV Series) will probably always be my favorite version of the story (besides the Syfy Alice Miniseries), I do genuinely enjoy the Disney adaptations of the original books.

The first movie dealt with Alice's introduction to the world of Wonderland as seen through the eyes of the film's director, Tim Burton. It kept a lot of the darker undertones of the original book while at the same time remaining lighthearted in its overtones as well as pleasantly strange.

The sequel is a lot darker and deals with Alice's return to Wonderland in order to help the Mad Hatter reunite with his family, who he previously thought died long ago. After finding a piece of a hat he had once given his father in the forest outside his home, the Mad Hatter goes into a state of deep madness and shuts himself away in his house, since no one seems to believe him that his family is still alive. In order to help the Mad Hatter return to his former self, Alice decides that she should travel back in time to help prevent the event that killed his family from taking place.

Alice journey's inside a giant grandfather clock and meets with the personification of Time itself. Time tells her that it is impossible to change the past because the consequences of doing so are too great. He mentions that the best anyone can do is learn from the past. Alice ignores his warning, set on trying to help save the Mad Hatter, and uses a device known as a Chronosphere to travel back into time.

The rest of the film deals with Alice's challenges as she travels back to the past many different times to attempt to save the Mad Hatter's family. Along the way, she learns about the past of the White Queen, Red Queen, and other characters such as the White Rabbit who she came to be friends with in the first movie. She also learns that while she can't change the past, she can indeed learn many things from it. And this knowledge ultimately helps her to save the Mad Hatter and all of her friends in Wonderland.

As a fan of Alice in Wonderland, I thought that this sequel was really great and did a good job of capturing the darkness of the original film. However, it is interesting to note that many people did not like either the original film or its sequel. Both have a fairly low rating on rotten tomatoes and other review sites. At the end of the day, if you are a major fan of Alice In Wonderland like I am, and you enjoyed the original film, chances are that you will like this film too. In fact, you might even like it better because it delves into a lot of darker themes and gives interesting backstories to many of the characters you have come to know and love from the first film.

If you did not like the first movie and are not that big of a fan of Alice In Wonderland to begin with, then this film probably won't be for you. It really has somewhat of a niche audience in mind. It panders to that audience and doesn't bother to make itself accessible to casual film goers.

At the end of the day, I would say that everyone should at least give both films a try. At the very worst, people will just decide that they are not the types of films they want to see, and go on with their day. But at the best, it will introduce new audiences to an interesting rendition of two classic stories. So it is something, I believe everyone should check out for themselves.

4422122 lol That meme.

The first Alice In Wonderland movie is a very polarizing film. People either liked it or they didn't. It has something like a 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I'm a huge Alice In Wonderland fan, so I've watched just about every version of the two books that has ever been made. And I personally liked Disney's Alice In Wonderland along with it's sequel, Alice Through The looking Glass. But I realize that the atmosphere and style of both movies won't be for everyone. Which is why the opinions on both movies is so polarizing.

I loved the book, can't say I loved the movie.

4422457 The books are great. They will always be the best versions of them all at the end of the day. ;)

Well,I liked the first film so I'll probably like this one as well.

4422636 If you liked the first film, chances are that you will also like the sequel since it has many of the same themes, characters, and effects as the first movie. :) If you watch it, you will have to let me know your thoughts on the film. :)

I very much like Alice in Wonderland. I'll try my best to check this out.
