The Plot Thickens · 7:33am Feb 11th, 2017
Hey all, getting close on the next Canterlot Files chapter! Or well, maybe. I'd like your feedback on how close I should be.
So, Canterlot Files is a bit more ambitious than either of my previous stories in this universe. Second Floor Club I didn't plan out very well, and as a result I've stalled on the last few chapters. I learned my lesson for Senior Year, and had an outline plot that I covered. I've done something similar for this one, but it's a much more detailed plot and, while still being mostly about sex with the occasional joke, is a bit more serious.
My intent is for the larger plot to be kind of like Babylon 5, Deep Space 9, or the X-Files: not strongly present in most chapters, but with the occasional set of chapters which advance it much faster. This upcoming chapter will be the first of these major plot chapters. As a result, though, it's a bit short on plot, if you know what I mean .
Hence the question: do you prefer a longer chapter, or one without clop? This one will probably be 6-8k or so words if I just do the plot; if I include the next clop segment, it'll probably at least double that (with a delay in release depending on how long it takes me to write). Would that seem daunting? Or should I stick to my "when Lindyne updates her clopfic, you always get at least one clop scene" guns?
Your call, but I have personally always subscribed to the "If longer chapters means more wait, then so be it," philosophy.
When I read first chapter I was like: Damn, this story is more than good enough even without "clop" parts. Would be nice to see it in version approved for "all audiences", but chapters would also be quite short. So if you devide story into "plot" and "clop" it will be OK because readers will choose what they favour anyway.
Thanks for the feedback! Gonna go with a long chapter and keep up my traditional "at least one clop scene per" plan. Hopefully up soon.
