Check it out, folks! With Sia having shown her character to be Songbird Serenade ages ago, we now have the official designs for some of the upcoming movie's new characters!
First up, Liev Schreiber's character who's supposed to be the main villain: the Storm King!
Who sort of looks like a yeti/centaur thing. Possible Tirek relation??? 
Not exactly the kind of bad guy I was expecting but I'm interested regardless on his powers and motivations.
Next up, Kristin Chenoweth's character (who she had a hand in choosing the mane colour): Princess Skystar!
Thanks to that leaked concept art at that Russian convention months ago (before it was deleted), we got confirmation that the Mane Six would be turned into seaponies. And from the look of it, this Princess Skystar a seapony! Seeing how she's also a princess instead of a queen, I'm guessing it's because Hasbro still sees queens as nothing but eeeevil! Though I am curious as to why she's called Skystar when she lives in the ocean... Eh, maybe we'll find out in the movie.
Up next, we have Taye Diggs' character: Capper!
My, my, ain't he a cool cat? Huh? Huuuuuh? 
Bite me, that was funny. Gotta say, I like his look; sort of stylish and laid-back. And it's nice to see that there are other anthropomorphic species in Equestria besides the mythological creatures. And besides, we've had anthropomorphic cats in past MLP generations (Catrina) so I see no harm in this guy. As long as he doesn't try to sound and act "kewl" to appeal to today's generation of kids instead of kids in general like some things that should never be spoken of... And who knows, maybe Fluttershy will find him adorable and try to pet him. 
And last but not least, Emily Blunt's "nasty pony" character as she put it: Tempest Shadow!
Very interesting design, I must say, especially with that scar on her eyes and that broken horn! No doubt that'll be explained in the movie too. Whether she's an advisor to the Storm King or a standalone antagonist the Mane Six run into, we'll have to wait and see.
No sign of Michael Pena, Uzo Aduba or Zoe Saldana's characters yet but I'm sure we'll see them soon.
EDIT: Scratch that, we officially have Zoe Saldana's character from her Facebook account (a little blurry but still good): Captain Celaeno!
Judging from the outfit, she looks like a bipedal griffon sea captain, or possibly another species of bird like an eagle of even a hippogriff! Pretty damn cool! And who knows, maybe she'll appear in the part of the story with the sea ponies?
EDIT 2: Christ, these just keep popping out! And we now have Uzo Aduba's character, Queen Novo!
And from the look of her, not only is she a seapony and most like Princess Skystar's mother but it looks like Hasbro can finally see not all queens are instantly evil! 
She kinda looks like an aquatic version of Celestia... possible cousin???
EDIT 3: Aaaand finally Michael Peña's character has been revealed: Grubber!
He looks like some sort of hedgehog-like creature. And given that he's wearing the same armor as the Storm King, I'm guessing he's his minion. Who knows, maybe the Starscream or the captain of his army? We'll have to wait and see...
And that is all the new characters for the movie revealed! I gotta say, we've got some great acting talent and some intriguing designs which I'm very much looking forward to! I guess all that's left to say now is...

Oh, and Sia, Kristen Chenoweth, Emily Blunt and Taye Diggs will be singing five of the movie's seven songs. Noice! 
Yeesh, anyone think the Storm King looks a little too much like Tirek for it to comfortable? I'm actually a bit worried now for Our Little Ponies. As for Copper, just looks a bit too odd for the show, bit too anthromorphic for the show. Maybe if all the other characters were anthromorphic it would be fine, but as they're not he looks a bit out of place.
My only hope for this movie is that it doesn't act TOO childish. I want to see this movie tackle mature themes, have a few dark moments, and have a compelling and emotional story. I'm hoping it has fun, too. I've heard there's going to plenty of songs, so that's a plus. So, my hopes are up seeing the new villain. Maybe he'll be an actual threat like Tirek was.
We can only wait now.
4416978 Right, like the show hasn't tackled mature themes while still being entertaining and not depressing or had emotional and compelling stories. Are we seriously nervous about this when Meghan McCarthy is writing it?
