Re-Organising My Priorities · 7:20pm Feb 8th, 2017
So I'm pretty sure now that half the reason I drifted away from this site is that it stopped being fun keeping up with stories, and became more of a chore.
Not really surprising considering how many open fimfic tabs I had, and how many notifications I accumulated a day (anywhere between 300 and 500).
The problem is, I have a somewhat (only somewhat I swear) obessive relationship with, of all things, browser tabs. I hoard the damn things like they're gold bullions. I've got something like 700 tabs open in Opera at the moment across 7 different windows, and that's me being manageable (i.e. I haven't spread it to Chrome, or my laptop, and I haven't used Firefox in months).
But! That will all change. It's time to tackle the house of horrors that is my Firefox browser.
I'm starting with my first tab group:
Which has already been reduced by a hundred tabs at this point (i.e. in the last half hour or so). None of my tab groups are smaller than 400 tabs. The other 6 fanfic groups are all bigger.
The largest is approaching 3000.
...
I have a problem.
SO!
1. Quite 98% of all groups on Fimfic, thereby cutting my notifcations at least in half.
2. Clear this tab group (by which I mean - add everything to read it later and worry about it at a different date).
3. Delete the other groups and pretend they don't exist (I'm not sure my computer actually has the processing power to open the largest one anyway).
THERE'S SO MANY AAAAHHHHHH
4. Don't actually delete that "fimfic cleanup" one because it looks like it might actually be sensibly organised (and I'm pretty sure it's under 450 tabs). Or the "Learnmusic" one, that's still something I want to do.
5. Go through and clear that.
6. Go through all notifications and clear them.
7. Stop obsessively keeping up with reading fanfiction on this site, start looking at it more for writing and the community.
8. ????
9. Profit.
After I've done all that, I should be ready to come back.
...
Welp.
Let's do this.
300 notifications a day? O.o Wow. How do you even manage that?

I am apparently following 1009 different authors on this site. How I managed to do that in a little under two years, I have no idea. Hence why I'm leaving 98% of the groups I was in - I think blog and story notifications are going to take up quite enough room on their own!
That seem to be quite sensible steps to take.
And welcome back

Thank you! And it's seems to be going well so far*, so I hope you're right!

I'm not sure if this is a visual pun wishing me Good Luck, or simply expressing a coy smile at me.
Either way, the sentiment is appreciated.

Ohh, you have group notifications on. :B I turn those off the moment I join a group, with very, very minor exception.
4414767, Like I would post Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan for only one of those reasons.
BTW, if you're looking for some writing and some community, EFNW are running another contest. Only 2k-6k words and you have till March 6 (>3.5 weeks) to enter. Maybe hold the Cthulu this year.

Yeah, that's a good way to do things. I'm emulating your example from here on out.

You can never have enough Good Luck Jonathan. Unless you're Nigerian, apparently.
And thanks! I'll give that a look - it's a good time frame too. And yes, no cthulu or child murder this time.
I wish you only the very best of luck, having had to go through a similar cleansing over on deviantART not too long ago for similar reasons. FIGHT! FOR EVERLASTING PEACE!!!
