Review #51 - My Little Changeling: Friendship is Weird, Rainbow's Bad Fanfic, Fluttershy's Nice Fanfic

So today, today I have another three. One of them, however, is the sequel to something I did a little while ago:

My Little Changeling: Friendship is Weird by Niaeruzu
This is a sequel to Thrown Abroad, which I reviewed HERE.

After the events of Thrown Abroad, Suncloak the changeling is happily living in Ponyville. Well, sort of. He needs the love of friendship to stay alive! Luckily, there's plenty of ponies who would want to be friends with him. But let's not forget about other changelings here... You know, this would be a lot easier if the whole concept of friendship wasn't so needlessly difficult.

Review
Suncloak gets approached by seven other changelings who want to learn about friendship from him. He unhappily accepts. What follows are his adventures while he learns of friendship to teach the others stuff. Eventually, he learns that they all have to go back to the hive, and he finds that he doesn't want them to leave. Luckily for him, 6/7 of them had already chosen to stay in Ponyville.

The pacing on this is great, but it can feel a little long due to the chapters being in the 9k word range. It has roughly 50 errors for every 10k words, which is quite good, and none of them even jar the reader out of the story. It also seems extremely planned out, which is really nice. The tags work out alright too, though it is kinda borderline for "Drama."

Score: 8/10 Recommendation: Highly Recommended if you read the prequel.

Personal Thougths: There is a third part to this series, it is just currently incomplete and on Hiatus.

Rainbow's Bad Fanfic by Jay-The-Brony

Rainbow Dash has taken it upon herself to write her very own fanfiction. Naturally, being Rainbow, she thinks it's awesome, and thus wants Twilight to read it. Unfortunately, Twilight is less than thrilled with her friend's creation.

Rainbow Dash asks Twilight to read her fanfiction... Twilight is less than impressed.

The pacing on this is pretty great, but something seems a little odd about it. It does, sadly, have multiple errors, but none that take you out of the story that much. It also seems mostly planned out, though it could have been better. The tags, however, work nicely.

Score: 7/10 Recommendation: Worth Reading.

Personal Thoughts: As Rainbow's fanfic is evidence for, always have a pre-reader...

Fluttershy's Nice Fanfic by Jay-The-Brony
This is a sequel to Rainbow's Bad Fanfic

After having read Rainbow's first attempt at a fanfic, Twilight was more than willing to put the whole matter behind her. However, this proved to be easier said than done, as another of her friends, Fluttershy, seems to have taken up the same hobby.

Review
Twilight goes to help Fluttershy fix up a couple things, and while there, finds a fanfic. It is a short and sweet fanfic, in which nothing happens. Twilight proceeds to tell Fluttershy that it is nice. That's... that's about it.

The pacing on this one could be better, by which I mean it could be a bit shorter. It has, unlike the first one, very, very few errors within the text. it also seems as though it could have used a bit more planning, but it's okay. The tag works as well.

Score: 7/10 Recommendation: Intermediate.

Personal Thoughts: As Fluttershy's fanfic proves, sometimes one-shots are quite nice, other times, eh.

I've read the two "fanfic" stories, and I think I had a similar reaction. Fluttershy is my favourite pony, but I didn't honestly find her fic all that interesting. As you say, there just isn't much to it.
