I come back, and this is the welcome I receive... · 10:20pm Jan 26th, 2017
So, I post the 13k story I've been working on for a month and it gets twenty-something views and three thumbs--one of them down! I'm just wondering where everyone is... I mean, I don't expect sad tragedies to be everyone's cup of tea, especially with what I've written in the past, but I'm proud of this work (even though I know I probably shouldn't be).
All I ask is that those that don't like it leave a brief comment as to why they don't like it. Even it it's just "it was too fast paced" or "your characters are inconsistent." I don't think readers know exactly how helpful those kinds of comments can be to a writer. If I don't know what kind of mistake I'm making, how do I fix the mistake?
The only time you really have a problem is when you don't know you have a problem.
(fun fact, googling that exact phrase gets you a bunch of AA links)
I'm not mad--I don't really get mad--I'm just wondering what I should do differently to appease the powers that be...
Namely, you all.
(Yes, that's pandering, but I write because I enjoy writing and I'll take any idea I get and run with it. I do it for me, but I also do it for you. Don't tell me what I already know)
I like your stories. I go read your new story now.

Thanks! But this post is more about the frustration I get from people that leave dislikes but no comments.
Regardless, I hope you enjoy my stories!
I'll admit that I avoid anything with a tragedy tag like I owe it money, so I can't really give input there. But at least I don't thumb down simply because it's not my genre.
I also tend to wait for stories to top 20k before I read them or with short one-shots for when I only have a short amount of free time. But I'll put it on the schedule to read this weekend while I'm off work so I can give some sort of comment on your recent work.

Oh, no, no! When I said the thing about the cup of tea I meant I don't expect all of my readers and followers to enjoy tragedy and sad stories (in fact, I also tend to avoid them ). If you don't enjoy that kind of story, you don't have to read it.
Though I would like some thoughts on my non-tearjerkers.
Either way, it's totally up to you what you do or don't read. I'll take what I can get.
