Tonight I find myself with 99 problems, and a leather queen is one.
I'm not even sure how many chapters of To Serve In Hell I'm sitting on at this point. Let's guess maybe 6 or 7 , though 1 or 2 might be sacrificed for spare parts as I continue to edit what I wrote back in November. But I have this whole alternating Rarity / Rainbow / Rarity / Rainbow chapter-pattern all set up, which kinda emulates the structure of Elantris, which gives me a kick because that's one of my all-time favorite novels by one of my all-time favorite authors.
Fun fact, I've tried to do that with a lot of my longer works prior to starting on FimFiction. But now suddenly it's all wrong. Rarity should get the next chapter, but I've spent most of a month trying to edit it, and it's missing something. Or someone's perspective.
Sassy has been pigeonholed thus far in To Serve In Hell as the easily-disposed-of, obviously-evil stooge. Spoiler alert: in the original vision document, she was supposed to die horribly, and no one was to shed a tear... but I kept not being able to write that. There was something about her that the story needed, even if I couldn't find the time to start fitting her in. And as I was trying to push ahead with the Rarity plot, I suddenly realized that if I was going to give Sassy her moment, the already-planned events of the next couple chapters meant it had to be now.

I'll be honest, this one is a bit rushed. It's also more of a foundational chapter, so don't expect Ascended Alicorn Sassy to come swooping in to defeat Nightmare Moon single-hoofedly just yet. (Crap, I just spoiled the ending, SORRY KIDS!) But she's going somewhere in the novel, and this should start setting up what that may look like. And of course there'll be a couple tidbits in there to keep revealing more about the world as a whole and what the power structure looks like in it, which Sassy is well-positioned to help explore.
Rarity can do that too, but to some extent Rarity is still an outsider to some parts of the Canterlot scene, and she can help with exploration on the fringes. In contrast, Sassy may have left the Canterlot establishment to join the establishment, but Sassy remains a Canterlot mare through-and-through.
stupid sexy Sassy
4394812 I'd love to see more of her in season 7.
Er, I mean more of her... not... more of her...

She provided me with two fanon ideas which made their way into Broken Symmetry: aura color superstition, and "ponies with sharp horns do that to advertise that they're single", because that awful thing would gore anypony in the face.
