    Obsolescence (Rewrite)?

Hello, all. It's certainly been a while, and I have only myself to blame for that. I sincerely apologize, both for my absence and all the unfulfilled and unfinished projects I never fully delivered to you all. Nothing can ever make up for that, but I hope that you all will be forgiving nevertheless.

Would You Read a Work of Original Fiction If I Wrote It?

Dear FIMfictioneers, as any of you who enjoyed Obsolescence know, I've all but given up on fan fiction. However, if I were to write a work of original fiction with the same themes and ideas as Obsolescence, would anyone be interested in reading it? If so, would you be interested enough to pay a small fee per chapter (keep in mind, any chapters would be 30+ pages, single-spaced, in

    Problems

I've come to the conclusion that what is perhaps the most vocal demographic of the fimfiction community is incredibly annoying and unhelpful. Some people will either like or dislike your ideas and say so. This is useful because it tells you something about your story, whether that's positive or negative. Even more useful is when people give an explanation as to why, such as stating their

Obsolescence (Rewrite)? · 11:09pm Jan 22nd, 2017

Hello, all. It's certainly been a while, and I have only myself to blame for that. I sincerely apologize, both for my absence and all the unfulfilled and unfinished projects I never fully delivered to you all. Nothing can ever make up for that, but I hope that you all will be forgiving nevertheless.

The reason for this blog post is that I've been thinking a lot lately, about all manner of things. Who am I? Where am I going in life? Do I have what it takes to actually make a living in the writing industry? I don't know the answers to these things, and perhaps I never will, but I still want to strive for them. To that end, I wanted to posit a potential experiment. If I can write an engaging novel-length narrative in a consequence free environment where copyright issues and monetary income and such are all irrelevant, then perhaps I can do the same with an original piece in the real world market.

The most logical place to start with this potential experiment seemed to be what I think is my most popular story after Millennium Wake. I cannot return to that story because I willingly and happily gave it away to another writer, and I do not wish to return to that story anyway for a number of personal reasons—the chief of these being that I felt I have grown too far away from who I was when I started that story. However, the story that seems to be my second most popular submission to FIMfiction is undoubtedly Obsolescence. I barely scratched the surface with all that I wanted to do with that story before stopping it for other personal reasons, but I always wondered and secretly wished to share all that I wanted to do with that story.

If I returned to regularly submitting pony fiction in the form of Obsolescence (and I'm not definitively saying I am or will), it would likely be on a chapter a month schedule, and only then as the most optimistic projection. I'm still busy in my own life and have personal issues to deal with as always, but with much help from friends, family, and others, I have become much better at dealing with many of these issues, and continue to grow better as time moves forward. Furthermore, despite my numerous shortcomings in the past here on FIMfiction, I'm managing to do more than I once thought possible with my original fiction. I have a Patreon for my original short stories, and have posted a number of them already, each fully complete and self-contained. I'm working on a webcomic with a few close friends, and we've been working daily on it for around a year now (although I am not currently at liberty to go into more detail on this project). I've even written a children's book that is currently being illustrated by a professional artist—the narrative itself is 100% complete, and I all I have to do is advertise the book while I patiently wait for the artist to do her immaculate work. For reasons of anonymity, though, I won't be sharing any further details on this book here online just yet either, as it reveals my true name and location.

The reason I tell you these things is to hopefully convey that I've grown from the person I once was, but I'm still tentative. If I can pull this experiment off, though, I'm confident I can make things work in the world of original fiction. The reason I'm making this blog post at all is to gauge if there's still any interest at all on this site for Obsolescence, much less myself as a writer. Please also know, as a final note, that if I did commit to this project, it would indeed be a rewrite. One of the reasons I think I failed at Obsolescence the first time is because I leaped in headfirst without too much forward thinking. However, I've had years to mull it over in my head, and I still have time yet to plan things out before I post anything. Because of this, I'd be starting Obsolescence over, with a new plot in mind, but still (mostly) the same cyberpunk Equestria setting, and certainly with the same protagonist in mind.

Thus, I ask you: Would any of you be interested in seeing an Obsolescence rewrite?

Well, since this story is in my "Stories I would read if they weren't cancelled" bookshelf, I definitely would be interested in seeing a rewrite.

Certainly wouldn't mind. Though it sounds like you've got a lot of things in the fire as is.

I always love cyberpunk stuff, and really liked what you had going. I for one would like to see a rewrite.

I can't say I'm familiar with the story in question, but I'm always happy to read more of your work.

Sure, I'd love to see a rewrite. Oh, and by the way, congrats on your original work, I hope you find much success.

I would like to see more. I thought the setting was pretty neat, what bits of it we got to see, and liked the protagonist. Certainly wouldn't mind seeing where it would eventually go.

Yes please, I enjoyed what you did with the world originally and would love to see where you would take it now.

I would enjoy to read the rewrite

I haven't read Obsolescence, but I bookmarked it despite it being marked cancelled because I thought the concept sounded so interesting. I'd totally read a rewrite.

You have my interest. I'd read it.
