Have you guys ever heard of the stereotype that black people love fried chicken and watermelon and grape drink? I know I have. It's this pervasive belief that the general population of people with a specific skin pigment for whatever reason have a greater appreciation for these things than the average person.
The stereotype is funny, but is it true? After I finish calling you a fucking racist, I'd say yes and no. Yes, black people in general love fried chicken and watermelon and grape drink; no, this is not at all unexpected.
Whenever I hear this stereotype, I have to fight the urge to say, "No shit." Who doesn't love fried chicken and watermelon and grape drink? Fucking commies, that's who. Loving fried chicken is as integral a part of being a human being as wishing Firefly wasn't canned after one season. This is absolutely common sense, and I find it ridiculous that anyone would ascribe such a thing to a stereotype. If it's a stereotype, it's a stereotype of humanity, not of a race. KFC exists because humanity loves fried chicken.
There are, of course, other pervasive stereotypes that can be showcased here, but one in particular that I have regurgitated at me frequently, sometimes several times a day, due to another community which I am a part of: Chinese people are more predisposed to cheating and will do everything they can to win.
So, we can preemptively say that representation anywhere by China is inordinately high. China comprises 20% of the world's population, so anywhere that Chinese folks congregate, you will see more of every type of person in their ethnic group than any other ethnic group.
That being said, is there any kind of merit? It's difficult to say for sure, since I haven't come across any studies whatsoever that either support or refute this supposition. There is, however, a bogus study (in the sense that the people using it are fabricating information, not that the study is inaccurate) that gets circulated frequently:
Source. What does this graph mean? The horizontal axis is the frequency of the occurrence of a mutation called the S-allele that affects the gene which controls the body's production of serotonin. People who lack the mutated S-allele are characterized as being more neurotic, but also happier. It basically causes greater extremes in temperament, as best as can be determined. The vertical axis is a previous study that was done to determine an overall individualist-collectivist rating per country and is as scientifically sound as a behavioral study can be, so I accept the individualist-collectivist scores assigned to each country.
What does this mean for the theory that Chinese people cheat? The people who link to this study also claim that it effectively proves that there is a positive correlation between S-allele occurrence and increased collectivism. They try to prove with this study that there is a genetic predisposition for Chinese citizens to put China first, and this somehow translates into the mentality that cheating on a test is better for China. I'm not exactly sure on how this line of logic works, but it's how this study has been used wherever I see it pop up at.
The first takeaway from this is that there is absolutely no regression line present. You know, the sexy straight line that you get when you see a trend:
If the data points were arrayed better, it's possible that a near-vertical median line would appear, but the main point is that a regression line indicates a trend, and this data set obviously can't have a regression line, aka no trend.
Furthermore, lets look at a few of these data points more closely.
* The USA and Russia have roughly the same S-allele frequency at 45% or so, but Russia's collectivism rating is 60 while the USA's is 10.
* Japan has an 80% S-allele frequency, and in fact has the highest S-allele frequency of any country but is far more individualist than anyone else even remotely close to them at 55. India is also about as individualist despite their S-allele frequency being 20% lower.
* Mexico is strongly collectivist at a rating of 70, making it higher than any other country outside of the Orient--but their S-allele frequency is only a little bit higher than the USA, coming out at 50% or so.
The funniest part about the line of dots that goes up the middle of these data points shows that S-allele frequency is about 40-60% in two-thirds of the world, but there's a huge variation in that small difference in regards to individualism and collectivism. As best as I can tell, there is absolutely no useful data to be gleaned from this study.
What can we conclude from this? Xenophobes do their absolute best to come across as intelligent or learned, but they're really just trying to seek numbers to support their suspicion of foreigners, regardless of whether those numbers support their claims or not. Even if there was a positive correlation in this study, it wouldn't prove that Chinese gamers are more predisposed to aimbotting (the initial claim).
I don't believe that stereotypes exist for a reason. Wherever a stereotype appears to be, ask yourself: Is this true of only this group of people, or is this actually something that applies to the larger population of the world? Even the "black people have bigger penises, Asian people have smaller penises" thing is just an inflated (lel a pun) statistic.
In general, the average penis length is slightly longer in black or African American men compared to other ethnic or racial groups. The average length in this group is 14.75 cm, but by comparison, the average white or Caucasian penis size is only a quarter of a centimeter smaller, at 14.5 cm. The average penis size among men of East Asian ethnicity is slightly smaller, at 12.9 cm. The global average is 13.71 cm.
Though black penises are apparently a bigger gamble:
Among the African-American ethnic group, there appears to be a larger variety of sizes than in Whites and Hispanics, which means there are more extremely small or large penises.
The moral of the story: Don't believe the bullshit you're told about racial traits or preferences, because 10 times out of 10, they're still bullshit. Let us work together to end dumb stereotypes that don't actually mean anything.

In all seriousness; stereotyping is all BS. Any one person in the world is born as close to a blank slate as a human can get (minus a few exceptions - physical disabilities, mental disorders etc.). What determines their frame of mind is their environment and its culture. To disregard someone as being a racist misogynist with no higher education just because their from Texas is ridiculous, and so is saying that a black person is more likely to commit a crime than a white person. Or saying that all Asians get better test scores. And so so is Richard Spencer blaming a black person for punching him in the head because he's a Nazi - fact is, everyone hates Nazis, it could have been anyone who didn't like him.

My friends say I act black sometimes, then I lecture them on casual racism and stereotyping. Then they stop being my friends...
I do try my best at looking past the stereotypes and when I do, I find it a lot easier to find acquaintances in people.

To an extent, I agree. But to dismiss all stereotypes as 100% BS is disingenuous. There's always a reason a stereotype begins; it takes an intelligent person to figure out how they got started in the first place and to decide from that point whether the stereotype is based on a degree of truth or truly is caca del caballo.
For example, black people are violent thugs. Is this true or false? Obviously it's rude and disrespectful, even racist, to presume all black people are this way. But why do people think that in the first place? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that young black men, making up about 6.5% of the U.S. population, commit about 50% of all homicides in the country. The numbers are staggering. The black community has a violent crime problem. So the stereotype, while prejudiced when applied to all individuals, is based on a truth.
Feel free to disagree, but when you say,

Except I was never pointing out a reason for the situation. I was merely pointing out the conclusion we can draw from the situation.
But I'll indulge you. So crime rates in impoverished areas are about the same regardless of demographic. But your statement that there are 7 million more whites in poverty than blacks is misleading. When you adjust for population, you find that about 10 percent of whites are impoverished compared to about 26 percent of blacks. 2.5 times the rate.
One of the biggest risk factors for living in poverty is single parent households. About 44 percent of all single-parent black individuals live in poverty. The single motherhood rate in the black community is 70 percent. This means that there is an epidemic of women having children out of wedlock in the black community. Compare this to only 25 percent of white children born out of wedlock, of which only 22.5 percent live in poverty.
The black community has a culture problem that makes them more vulnerable to living in poverty. Because of this, when you adjust for population, it is objectively true that blacks engage in far more criminal activity than whites. Thus, the stereotype is based on a factual reality.

As a mostly passive observer, I think you are both making good points, and I find this conversation interesting.
I should probably also point out that the only reason why black communities are struggling so much right now is because of slavery. I, being a black person at heart, am entirely familiar with what slavery feels like and consider that one of the greatest detractors preventing me from having fulfilling, committed relationships. Whenever I think about marriage, I just imagine the master's whip cracking over my back and realize I don't want to be a slave again, as an ancestor of mine was certainly a slave and by Assassin's Creed logic I have his memories stored in my DNA.
4397129 I don't think you know what per capita or adjusting for population means. It looks at the rates with relation to the population represented in the area. So if the rates are kept the same but the populations are made identical, the group with the higher rate commits more crime.
It's simple math.
x=15
y=60
.5x=7.5
.15y=9
So y has more cases.
However, per capita...
x=y=100
Results in...
.5x=50
.15y=15
Therefore, even though white people have more individual cases, black people commit crimes at much higher rates.
By the way, those numbers are just an example to illustrate my point.
