Top 10 MLP: FiM Songs · 5:26am Jan 16th, 2017
Hey again guys! This time, I will share the list of my 10 favorite songs from the show! I haven't forgotten about this, so there's that. This will probably be one of the biggest lists that I could come up with, and even after finishing Season 6, my songs still stand where they are. Without further ado, let's begin! Remember, this is only my opinion, so once again, feel free to agree or disagree with me on this. NOTE: There are some ties on here.
10. "A True, True Friend" & "What My Cutie Mark is Telling Me" - Season 3
Before you ask, yes, I approve of Twilight becoming a princess and what lead up to her coronation(there are still people who hate that, but I don't have a problem with that either). But anyways, we're starting off with two songs from S3's finale, and they had two completely different moods, which I found to be interesting! The latter deals with the Mane Six, except for Twilight, struggling to adapt to their new destinies after she accidentally swapped their cutie marks. The mental thoughts that were running through my mind during the song just blows it away, such as wondering if the Mane Six will fatally change the future of Equestria with this miscast spell from Twilight or if they will no longer be together forever. Afterwards, Twilight turns things around, as usual, and in "A True, True Friend," it was pretty clear that the spell needed to be fixed just by the Mane Six realizing that they need each other the most. This is also one of the many reasons why I love them so much, even to the point where I wish that they would never leave each other! These two songs are, without a doubt, some of the best because they're an example of how the Mane Six never give up on helping each other out, even if it takes a long time to switch their cutie marks back! Twilight, especially, would never let any of their lives be ruined by such a mistake, and if she told them after things went back normal, I'm always certain that they'll forgive her! How cheerful these songs can be!
9. "You'll Play Your Part" - Season 4
Without a doubt, the S4 finale has Twilight's best moments(next to "Magical Mystery Cure")! Before she has her epic battle with Tirek in Part 2, we get an emotional subplot about Twilight dealing with her desire for her role as a princess, other than just greeting and smiling all the time. So, the other three princesses, Celestia, Luna, and Cadance all reassure her and sing to her in the most beautiful way possible! Since they're all in the Crystal Empire at night, the visuals and choreography are absolutely stunning! Mixing day, night, love, and magic will give you a recipe for feels! Afterwards, Twilight goes on to eventually defeat Tirek with her best friends and becomes the Princess of Friendship. She has definitely come very far and understands what she is meant to do as a princess: spread the magic of friendship!
8. "Make a Wish" - Season 4
Next to "Shake Your Tail" from Rainbow Rocks, this is probably the catchiest song, in my opinion. Having this play at an actual birthday party would be kind of weird, but it certainly is lively and fun! There's not much else to say about this, except that it's just very nice, especially when it centers around the birthday of my favorite pony, Rainbow Dash! Combining Weird Al Yankovic's voice with Andrea Libman's and Shannon Chan-Kent's made a pretty good first impression and I hope the creators plan to do another episode with Weird Al Yankovic!
7. "The Smile Song" - Season 2
You probably all saw this one coming, did you? Yeah! I mean, what else is there to say about this song? This is obviously Pinkie Pie's best song because it describes her perfectly: she loves to make her friends smile, feel happy, and have fun! You are practically listening to the Element of Laughter in a nutshell right here! Before, I used to think that Pinkie was my least favorite out of the Mane Six(I'm talking to you, Smile & Cupcakes HD >:(!), but whenever I rewatch "A Friend in Deed," I think about her as one of my most favorites! Shannon's and Andrea's voices once again exceed as they sing as the bubbly, pink pony!
6. "I'll Fly" - Season 5
After all this time, the best pony(Rainbow Dash for me)finally gets a solo song, and the wait was totally worth it! "Find a Pet" deserves points for cuteness and "CHS Rally Song" deserves points for motivation, but it's this song that touches my heart the most! We've seen Rainbow Dash prove her loyalty to her best friends on multiple occasions, but this is the first time that she has proved herself to her pet tortoise, Tank. To me, this song is probably the self-bargaining stage of grief that Rainbow goes through, which she does. It's no surprise that Ashleigh Ball is already a talented singer and here, all the emotions that she has put into Rainbow were just awesome...literally! She fought hard in this episode and while she did break down into tears at the end, you can see how much trouble she went through to stop Tank's hibernation. She'll always have a place in my heart and her voice is awesome...once again!
5. "Generosity" & "Hearts Strong as Horses" - Season 4
I'm going to address the latter, for the sake of order. This is the Cutie Mark Crusaders' first song of Season 4(and only one, I think) and yet, the three rascals already have started out strongly! Even though the episode centered around mostly Scootaloo, she and her friends are the mane attractions(lol)! The CMCs weren't ready to let Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon carry the Ponyville flag in the Equestria Games and of course, the three won. Besides the epic training segments in this song, the drumbeats and lyrics are the best parts of it! With or without auto-tuning, Michelle Creber, Claire Corlett, and Madeleine Peters all sound great either way! I've always enjoyed rewatching "Flight to the Finish" and it has also made the CMCs have a special place in my heart, as well! As for Rarity's song, it's GENEROUSLY fabulous(lol again)! "Rarity Takes Manehattan" is simply one of my all time favorite episodes from the show and if I had to list all the reasons why, this song is no exception! Rarity really took her generosity to the next level before and after she entered the city's fashion show. Manehattan was the perfect setting since it had beautiful locations to display all around and Rarity certainly didn't waste her time there! She may be hard to understand sometimes, but if there's anything that she loves doing the most, it's being generous to her friends! The reprise, on the other hand, had an emotional twist to it, one that even Rarity knew was going to happen after she snapped at her friends. In Season 5, it was funny that she did a callback to this song in "Made in Manehattan," which is another good episode! Season 4 was meant to very serious with its chest key storyline, but it was also nice and relaxing enough to listen to Daniel Ingram's work along the way.
4. "We'll Make Our Mark" - Season 5
Put down the pitchforks and torches, please!
Yeah, it's sad to see that the CMC's best moment in the show is ONLY at number four! Hasbro has thanked the fandom greatly with the show's 5th year anniversary by finally giving the CMCs their cutie marks. It was worth it and they've finally done it! This song literally takes you through a montage of their journey from start to finish and it was an emotional one! I also like that there's an additional chorus with the CMC's older sisters, Applejack, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash. I literally cried tears of joy, justifying how proud I am of these little rascals(lol, I don't know why I keep calling the CMCs that)! Daniel, Michelle, Claire, and Madeleine have brought yet another masterpiece!
3. "Let the Rainbow Remind You" - Season 4
After Tirek gets blasted back to Tartarus by the Mane Six's rainbow power, Princess Twilight gets her very own castle. The main reason why this song rules is because it's the best way to end off the chest key storyline and everypony's come to together celebrate the Mane Six's tough victory. After a tough battle, they've well deserved it! The lyrics symbolize the feats and obstacles that they've been through, as well as how their friendship always triumphs in the end. It may be not as epic as all the other songs, but it's probably the most relieving one!
2. "I've Got To Find A Way" - Season 3
Out of all the listed songs, this is definitely the shortest one(not counting the extended version). This song is just as emotional as "Celestia Ballad" and the reason why that isn't on this list is because I found these songs to be a bit better, not to disrespect. What's so sad is seeing Twilight realize the mistake that she made(using an unfinished spell that switches her friends' cutie marks), whether it's unintentional or not. Just imagine what the future of Equestria would be like if the Mane Six(except Twilight) still had their cutie marks swapped! This is why you shouldn't mess with destiny! Mixing piano and a kind of groove beat was cool, though. Despite how quickly Twilight recovered after the song, Rebecca Shoichet
did a very great job as the future princess!
1. "Friends Are Always There For You" & "The Magic Inside(I Am Just a Pony)" - Season 5
Here we are at number one! I'll start with the latter again, for the sake of order. S5 has been a great ride and it's still my favorite season to this day. Out of all the new characters introduced, Countess Coloratura, or Rara, is my most favorite! Cheese Sandwich was voiced by Weird Al Yankovic, a familiar celebrity that is widely popular, and now, we get Rara, who's voiced by the beautiful Lena Hall, a Broadway performer and professional rocker & singer! She may not be familiar to most people, but she has made her first MLP appearance a truly memorable one! The pop star pony sang a couple of songs in the episode and her very last one was the best! There were orchestrations, beautiful visuals, soothing lyrics, and perfect vocals. Applejack's childhood friend also sent a clear message to all of us and it's about staying true to ourselves by fulfilling & enjoying the interests we keep in our hearts. Self-image doesn't reflect us either, it's our personalities. At SDCC(San Diego Comic-Con), this song was leaked and played, and even the drawing board version looked awesome! It's just...beautiful. This was how things should've ended right before the season finale! And speaking of it, the next song(the only song from the finale)happens to be the best as well. Where do I even begin? Like "A True, True Friend," this pretty much sums up the show in its entirety, but here, we get the addition of a reformed Starlight Glimmer and the Mane Six reunited after the restoration of the current timeline! This added to the emotion that I've felt for Starlight with her past and now, she's part of the main cast! While the finale may have focused mostly on Twilight and Spike fixing the timeline, Starlight and each of the Mane Six deserved the spotlight, in my opinion. Every time they come together(lol, I've yet to see them by themselves), it just warms my heart and their friendship is just so powerful that it even brings tears to my eyes! The little montage with Starlight interacting with the Mane Six, the trip back to the village from the S5 premiere, the lyrics, the instrumentation(especially the drums), and everypony in Ponyville coming together at the end all felt so satisfying, triumphant, glorious, and straight up beautiful! Twilight's castle map makes so much sense now because even though it didn't call her in the finale, her castle was pretty much the perfect place to end off the map storyline, back where it all began! The best heroes and villain, who is now a hero, will always have a place in my heart, and it's all thanks to the magic of friendship!
And that's it for my favorite songs from the show! Sorry about how long it took me to make this list. What're your favorite songs, guys? Feel free to agree or disagree with me! Next time, I'll be doing the top 10 main characters! Bye /)!
