Fic recs, January 10th: Poopfic edition :V · 7:52pm Jan 10th, 2017
I can't believe I never did this before. V:
I happened to notice a small handful of poop- and fart-related fics in my RIL, etc., so after hearing a certain reading, I decided to go ahead and throw this together. This is a combination of that, at least one fic that's been on my RIL for a while, and a few that came up as highly-rated when searching on certain keywords.

You might be in a more festive mood if it wasn't so fucking cold. And you didn't have to poop really, really bad.
When this story came out, it presented me with a conundrum. On the one hand, I hate AiE fics; the premise will just never interest me. On the other hand, poop jokes. I'm glad I let Wuten make the decision to read this story for me, because it was the right one. I was not expecting scatological Christmas songs, and they just about killed me. But even more than that, I like Anon's characterization, because he's just an insufferable dick to everyone, first for no reason and then later because he has to go. What makes this work is not only the juxtaposition with the ponies' blithe cheer, but that they don't seem to care. Even when Anon is a complete dick to Fluttershy, ending with her head-down in the snow (a scene that caused me no end of laughter), she doesn't cry or anything. The ponies can take it, no one's getting hurt, so it's actually fun watching this guy be a total manchild about everything. If that doesn't sound like your cup of tea, I can understand, but once again I find myself saying, listen to the reading, this was tailor-made for audiobooks. And if you like poop jokes, it comes highly recommended.

This is actually the story that kicked everything off this time around. And, when I say I got some laughs out of this, it should be noted that, earlier today, I was laughing myself to death because I had thought of the word 'poop'. I have simple tastes, is what I'm getting at. That said, the writing in this is notably sub-par, and it gets, uh, a little more detailed than I actually wanted. It still has some good turns of phrase, snarky observations about the general absurdity of ponies, but yeah, it's more or less what it says on the label, and possibly a little too intense by the end. But hey, I was warned. :V

Pinkie uses her newfound powers to terrohug her friends.
If there's anything I like about this, it's that Pinkie Pie understands. If there's anything wrong with it, it's that it lays out its primary joke, then drives it into the ground. The only thing humorous after "I can fart rainbows!" is the unended horror displayed by Pinkie's friends, and that doesn't exactly appeal to everyone. Still, I did at least get one huge laugh out of this, so it has some merit.

It's time for you to learn how ponies poop.
Ahh, this is the good stuff. It's got the same snarky approach to AiEs as Bah! Hum-Dump!, plus it features you taking an angry, spiteful dump! Like, that's fucking hilarious! I appreciate the fact that this actually does explore differences in pony and human culture, and then Fluttershy starts treating Anon like a dog. Don't let all the "it's not sexy!" warnings scare you aware, it really isn't, the author's overselling things. The worst part of this is the typos, but if you're just here to laugh about poop, you won't mind those so much.

Celestia is just tired of performing Luna's responsibilities, is all.
Regardless of anything else, reading a story where Celestia uses the word "dookie" is worth the price of admission. Of course, the effect is blunted somewhat by the extreme lengths to which she's written out of character, not all of which are equally funny. Sadly, this really reaches for its jokes, and few of them land. YMMV, and depend entirely on how much you can stand seeing Celestia be wildly out of character. (Actually, the interesting thing is this all seems to be set prior to Nightmare Moon.)

Genre: Comedy
Somepony in Cheerilee's class just let one rip. But who?
For all that it's just a string of foals gagging on foul smell, this one's pretty funny, and I got a kick out of the answer to the 'mystery' of who dealt it. The writing could definitely use some brushing up, and will likely be the sticking point for any who would otherwise be interested in this, but it's worth it for laughs otherwise.
