Paranormal Creatures: The Adjule

You may recognize the name of this cryptid from the popular game, Resident Evil 5. But did you know that an Adjule is a real cryptid that many people have reported seeing since the 1920s in Northern Africa?

Today I will share some information about the Adjule so you can learn more about the mysterious creature that supposedly lives in the Northern African region.

The Adjule or Bush Dog (also known as the Kelb-el-khela for males and tarhsît for females), is a canine-like animal cryptid, claimed to live in the North African region, close to the Sahara Desert. First reported by Théodore Monod in 1928, and today is described as an undiscovered variety of the African Wild dog. The most recent sighting was in 1992 from the resident hunters of the village in Western Mauritania. It has not been seen since.

There are no known photos of the Adjule, its sightings have been debunked by most of the scientific world as just sightings of African Wild Dogs living close to the Sahara, which today they do not, or other known species which has mange, or a creature that has been misidentified by the local population of humans.

The Adjule is described as being approximately two and a half feet tall, with feet that are webbed, and having rough thick crimson colored skin which has a bluish tint. Descriptions have the wolf-like creature weighing in at about thirty to forty-five pounds. The Adjule are not lone creatures. The hunting packs number from three to thirteen.

Also reported to have some supernatural powers. The local tribesmen of the Sahara say it uses pheromones to cause great contention or discord among the area's residents allowing them to hunt their prey. There are no records or mention of the Adjule attacking humans.

As many people know, Adjules appear as enemies described as being parasite-infected dog in the video game Resident Evil 5. But the lesser known fact is that they are part of many local African urban legends. Many locals consider the Adjule to be a spirit that causes discord among the local tribesmen so that while they are distracted, the Adjule can hunt their prey.

They can be either a sign of misfortune or luck depending on the circumstances in which they are seen. If you see them passing by it can be a sign that you will have a successful hunting mission. However if you catch them in the act of either hunting or feeding, then you will not have any luck with hunting until the bad luck wears off or you get help from a local healer.

Have you ever heard any stories about the Adjule or had any personal encounters? If so, leave any information or personal stories you may have about the creature in the comment section below. It's always interesting to learn new things about cryptids and the paranormal.

4374767 Do you ever go to Tucson?

4374780 I've gone a few times. It is pretty close to where I live. :)

I've never seen something like that before, quite interesting

4374828 Saguaro National Park? Interstate 10?!

4374937 I am glad that you liked learning about it. :)

4374997 I've been to many national parks in Arizona as well as across the United States. I went to Suguaro National Park when I was young. But most trips I've taken to Tucson were to anime conventions or other nerdy events. :p

I didn't know about this dog.

4375320 Nice! So have I! And I went to Bronycon last year so I'm no stranger to geeky things like that either XD. I imagine you've been to the Grand Canyon multiple times...

4375691 Well now you learned something about it eh? XD

4375700 I've been to The Grand Canyon and a bunch of other national parks both in Arizona and across the United States as well. :)

4376069 You are very welcome. :)

4376984 How about meteor crater?

4376994 Yep. I've been there as well. It's a really neat place. :)

I saw one in Cairo, when we where on the small bus heading to the site of the Giza Pyramids when I was 12. No one believed me.

4377270 You visited the pyramids? :o That's way cool. And you saw one of these paranormal ceatures eh? That must have been interesting indeed.

4377329 It was a freaky dog thing that looked pretty damn big even from where I was looking. It was nasty, it was a scaly and red and was nearly as tall as a man on all fours. I saw it running after a few Arabic men in the distance. They were pretty far away though, I remember it because it was THAT weird.

4377471 Wow! it sounds like you have seen an Adjule for yourself. Do you remember any other details about that day? It must have been weird to see a giant red dog running out in the desert by itself. I'm surprised that the men didn't notice it. Or did it seem like they did? Maybe another feature of the Adjule is that it can choose to be invisible around people who it doesn't want to notice it. In any case that's really interesting. :)

4377485 They saw it, they told me that it was just a wild dog, that had lost most of it's fur. I was on a moving bus, and it was pretty far away. But I could have sworn that it had scales!

4377517 Hmmm maybe they were covering up the fact that it looked odd? Or maybe they just assumed that it was a normal desert dog? In any case that is really interesting.
