    Semi-Original Fiction

    So:

Back in Feb. 2020, I wrote a story for one of the "original fiction" Writeoffs that nonetheless had some Pony content. It was a slightly unusual situation all around.

    Seasonally Appropriate Content

From October 2016 through October 2017:

I participated in every weekly contest at Poetry Nook. Of the 52 poems I entered during that time, I won the contest once and got four "honorable mentions." One of those was for the following, the poem I entered Christmas week of 2016.

    A New, Semi-Related Short Story

    If you'd rather read:

The actual story instead of all my falderol about the story, clicking on the title "The Sleep of Reason" will transport you scientifically to the Zooscape website where said story is now displayed. But if you'd like the backstory, too...

A Couple Holmes and Watson Ponies · 10:51pm Jan 2nd, 2017

So, last year:

I wrote a story about a couple ponies called Currycombs and Silver Scalpel--Holmes and Watson ponies, basically. I sold the story to Zoetic Press for issue #9 of their NonBinary Review series and thought, "Hey! I'll write a Currycombs and Scalpel story for each of their themes, send 'em in, and bam! There we'll be!"

So I sent them a story for issue #10's Alice in Wonderland theme. They said, "No, thank you." Then I sent them a story for issue #11's Anne of Green Gables theme. They again said, "No, thank you." By that time, the contract for the first story had run its course, so I figured I'd start posting 'em here on FimFiction. I commissioned some cover artwork back in October, and it finally came in today. So The Casebook of Currycombs gets its first chapter, "A Study in Sorrel," published for free reading over on my AugieDog account. I'll tidy up the next two already written chapters, put together a few more, and we'll see what we shall see.

I guess ponies get old quickly. :B

Well even if they didn't accept it I think it's a fun theme for a story. Do you think you'll keep adding more?

That seems:

Pretty much to be the case. The editor said that "Study in Sorrel" was the oddest story she'd ever bought. But that's kind of a trick you can only do once...

Right now, I've got the next two, "The Case of the Stolen Tarts" and "The Case of the Unrestrained Orphan," pretty much finished. So they'll be along shortly. The deadline for submitting the next one to issue #12, the Edgar Allan Poe issue, of NonBinary Review, is Feb.1st, so I'd like to have the fourth one done by then so I can submit it, have it rejected, and then post it here.

That's the plan at least!
