Spiders and Magic Review and Happy New Years · 2:56am Jan 1st, 2017

Okay before I begin my review I just want to let you guys that every single one of you is awesome!:pinkiehappy: The year went by pretty fast, but it was a great year. Now it's time for the review!

Warning: Rest of this blog will contain Spoilers to story, You have been Warned!

So today I'll be reviewing Spiders and Magic: What If? made by Maximus_Reborn

This story's length is about 44,000 words, not quite as long as his other stories, but it's well written to say the least. This is another Spiderman Crossover that takes place sometime in the first Story. It came out on Christmas day and I have to say that I was very excited to read it when it came out . Anyways our story begins in Canterlot after the grand galloping gala, Twilight telling the truth of learning about Peter's past and Spitfire's race declared. Luna and Peter soon talk things over in the garden just like in the first story, but things turn out a little differently than what happened before. Luna like before starts to like or tolerate Peter, which Celestia soon notices and gives her the push to meet up with him the following day at his race, beating Twilight Sparkle to confessing her feelings to him and the seeds of jealousy are planted.

I had to say that it was pretty interesting to see how much of Discords plans have changed due to Luna interfering and just like him I found it to be interesting. Also how the two interact with one another is just so hilarious, just Peter teasing her about how she likes him and she denies it is just comedy gold:pinkiehappy:. Anyways Peter makes the effort to come to Canterlot every night just to visit Luna, but Celestia comes up with a solution to make him Luna's personal Knight and Peter gladly excepts saying that he'll look after the two from now on. Thus gaining his Cutie Mark in a different way than before. Honestly for that part though it felt a bit rushed, but than again, the story does take place in the middle of the first one....So yeah that's just me.

Now before I continue I just have to say that I really liked this shipping between Peter and Luna, because it's just so satisfying to see how these two get along. Luna the stubborn Princess who's practically a Tsudere and Peter the funny quick witted Spider-Mane who's always cracking jokes to embarrass or annoy Luna is just so funny. Not to mention how the romance builds between the two is really satisfying and how Luna comes out of her shell and Celestia interacting with the two and teasing them as well as hooking the two up is a bonus for me:raritywink:

Here's where things really start to change, as soon as Peter returns to Ponyville, he lets everyone know that he's going to be living in Canterlot with Luna, but one pony in particular isn't so happy about it. Twilight confronts Peter in the Library and confesses her feelings as well and tries to convince him to stay, but he refuses saying that they'll always be friends and that his heart belongs to another. She doesn't take it so well and begins to hate Luna for taking him away and when he's gone she lashes out all her friends, driving them away and loosing her connection to her Element.

As our story continues on Peter gets a new outfit and new name.........He is known as Spider-Knight, which is SO MUCH BETTER THAN SPIDER-MANE AND A CERTAIN CHANGELING MIGHT AGREE WITH THAT!!!

Now I really like the design of it and not to mention that I like the shield as well, (another reference by the way to Civil War if you didn't know:raritywink:) The Blue is much better than his original (That's a lie, don't kill me Stan Lee) and even Luna likes the design, since it's to signify that he's her protector. Things get a lot more interesting as the one.............and only...........Sunset Shimmer returns to try to steal the element of magic only to get caught by Peter and Luna and is brought to Celestia, who explains everything about being an Alicorn and that she needed to learn the magic of Friendship as well, and Celestia my favorite trolling Princess sends her AND Peter to go across Equestria and learn from one another while helping ponies in need.

Now a big leap into the future where Twilight learns of Sunset and accuses Celestia of replacing her and blaming Luna for taking what was rightfully hers (Peter by the way and last I checked he's not object and he has rights and will to chose for himself) and as paranoia consumes her as she vows to never forgive them. Honestly I wasn't expecting Max to go this route, but I LOVED this part of the story even if it was very short.

After that we get to see Luna enter Peter's dream and see his true form and well............... We get to see Luna's human form and I have to say that Peter's one lucky bastard:pinkiehappy:

I mean just look at Luna....She's gorgeous! XD

So in the end, Sunset becomes a Princess and the next Element bearer for Magic thanks to Peter, while Luna gives a portion of her lifespan to Peter and the two get married. While Twilight is now in control of the Alicorn Amulet and now seeks revenge~

Also her last lines just remind me of that fanmade trailer for the Avengers Infinity War Movie

Now theres only one thing I didn't like about this story and that was the length of the story.......... I would have liked for Sunset and Peter to interact during there months together, like what did they do? Did they just walk around Equestria to get to know one another? Also I would have liked to know more about how Twilight falls into her descent to evil? I mean I would have liked to see if her friends tried to help or not and I would have liked a bit more a little action, like maybe another round with Glacious in the last few chapters or maybe a Luna vs Twilight chapter? Also don't think I haven't forgotten what you said a while back Max:trixieshiftright:

You said in one of your blogs that you'd make the story 20 chapters or more, Something about fleshing out this new universe. But I'm not angry or anything like that, if anything I a little glad you made it short:pinkiesmile: Mainly because now you'll get to work on your next story.

Anyways my final review for this story shall be a 8/10 a story that is worth reading again in the future.

That's all I have to say for this story and I want to thank all of you for putting up with me through out the year and I hope you'll all have a wonderful new year:twilightsmile:

Also I must sadly say that I'll be delaying my story Spiders and Magic: Infinity to make a different one......Now It's not that I lost motivation because I haven't I've been coming up with new ideas and well with What If? Is out there isn't really much on this new universe and I would like to expand it if Maximus is okay with it:twilightsheepish:

Anyway have a wonderful new year...........Now if only I had the guts to confess to the girl on this site that I like her:twilightoops::twilightblush:

Interesting review. Great you enjoyed it, but while some things seemed kinda rushed, sometimes it just happens. It would have been cool to see Peter interact more with Sunset Shimmer, she might have Trixie's role like Luna has Peter's Plus his new suit and name are pretty cool and fitting. Kinda wanna see Spider-Mane meet Spider-Knight, not really for a fight, but them interacting and comparing their romance. Great review on the story and your points on things like Peter and Luna's relationship, Celestia messing with her sister as well as other things.

Still, kinda hoped to see more of your spin-off, but I'm curious how you would handle this new bit of universe. Even I would like to explore it a little. If Peter could end up with a different pony, then who else? Instead of Parker-Sparkle, we have Lunar Spider. Instead of Fantastic Loyalty, perhaps Fantastic Laughter?

Still, hope to see more of your Spin-Off soon, any Spin-Off.

Happy New Year. :pinkiehappy:

Thanks for the review. Yeah, I know that I backed out of the notion of 20 plus chapters. Honestly, if I went through with that, 20 chapters would have grown to 30, then to 40.

I'd rather do something short so I could focus on Shattered Dimensions We needed the groundwork for this dimension since it is returning in Equestrian Avengers.

I may do a small side series featuring Sunset and Peter, showing their friendship adventures with the Mane 5. It could also show Twilight's descent.

Maybe.

4363617 Well if you don't mind I'd like to do a Spin-off with a few new villains that I've made. I'll PM you sometime tomorrow, but until than let's just say that they're interested in Spider-Man Knights destruction:pinkiecrazy:

Great review. Pretty much sums up how I feel about this AU. Now we need Spider-Mane and Spider-Knight to meet and compare their experiences. And if you're able to make your own expansion to this story with your own villains, I wish you luck.

4363594 Imagine Pinkie Pie/Punisher. That would be a bizarre twist.

4363677 Thanks and also I like your new avatar:pinkiehappy:

4363677
That would be something. :trixieshiftright:

4363617
So it IS gonna be there, Spider-Mane meets Spider-Knight! :pinkiehappy:

4363684 Thanks and Happy New Years!

I was talking with Maximus yesterday in regards to reviews. I mentioned, "I don't think we will find anyone who won't mention how they didn't like how short it was, or how rushed it felt."

It was a difficult choice to be honest. On one hand, we had expanding further on the universe and making the story longer and more in depth as the cost of Shattered Dimensions being pushed back significantly. On the other hand, we could get to shattered dimensions sooner, but at a cost of this story being significantly cut down.

As much as Maximus and I would like to do both, there are so many hours in a day and days in a year. Time was a large factor in this, as well as not being sure exactly how the story would be received. (I was very confident the readers would love it, personally.) :rainbowwild: So there was the question of is it worth the time to expand this if it meant pushing SD back?

As I mentioned elsewhere in other comments on the story itself, Personally I'd have loved to expanded on these events that sort of got glossed over. This is because this stuff is right up my alley of writing that I absolutely love to do. However I was also very aware that we needed to get to shattered dimensions, so we really couldn't afford to do it. :unsuresweetie:

Now however, after seeing the results of the story and that it was received exponentially better than either of us had expected. It sort of leaves us in this awkward moment of "Should we have just pushed to expand these things after all?"

Hmm... that might not be a bad idea actually.

A sequel to what if that shows Peter and Sunsets misadventures over those months, as well as some insight into Twilight's decent. People sure seem to be rioting demanding requesting for something like that.

Hehe. personally I thought it was pretty obvious with the ending that it wouyld be continued in Shattered. Twilight finds a fagment of the tablet in the closing paragrapth after all. :pinkiecrazy:

But yes. The 'What If' verse will be making a pretty solid appearance in Shattered. So you can look forward to it!
