Kamen Rider Ex-Aid Episode 9 – Beat Up The Dragon Live Reaction

We're still getting the special addition Movie War opening. And I will say: it's freaking WEIRD to Kamen Riders vs Pacman...

Anyway, the group cleaning up CR since the Secretary of Health is visiting. We find out that the Security of Heath's name is Dr. Kyotaro Hintata and he was the doctor that saved Emu's life in the opening to episode one. Nice call back and interesting to see.

As Kyotaro is on his way, he's confronted by Graphite...who uses the Proto Drago Knight Hunter Z Gashat to infect him with the Bugster Virus.

Naturally, Emu is quick to help him to try and return the favor for his own life being saved, and we find out Kyotaro REMEMBERS him. That's nice.

Emu notices that the disease infecting him is the same one that Graphite came up as having. So yeah, in series confirmation: Graphite was born from Drago Knight Hunter Z. I wonder if that makes him using that Gashat even MORE powerful than it would've otherwise.

Hiiro arrives and is...well, still Hiiro. The Bugster Union begins to manifest and it's noticed as NOT being a normal Bugster. Which is further shown as rather than just being solid orange, it's got a LOT of black in it. We also find out Drago Knight Hunter Z is a four player Monster Hunter style game.

Which is cool.

Graphite shows up and reveals his current motive is to spread the Bugster virus further and further to build an army before forcing the Proto Drago Knight Hunter Z Gashat into his chest and turning into a black and gold colored version of himself. Oh Japan, you do love your black and gold repaints, don't you?

However, back at his office, we find out Kuroto EXPECTED this to happen (meaning him and Pallad knew Graphite was listening) and this was exactly what they wanted..and Kuroto can now get data on the final version of Drago Knight Hunter Z and complete 'this stage' of their plans.

Hiiro tries to fight Graphite while Emu fights the Bugster Union, but two on one isn't going well and both Graphite and the Bugster Union escape.

Taiga confronts Kuroto in his office and wonders what exactly is going, but is naturally informed the tenth Gashat isn't meant for him.

Back at CR, Emu is clearly freaking out, given his idol is on the line. Hiiro tells him that he's letting his feelings blind him...and Emu counters that so is Hiiro: he took on Graphite not to save the patient, but for revenge on him for Saki's death. Yeah, Emu's right, he's being a bit of a hypocrite.

Asuna is the voice of reason and tells them to knock off their fighting as Kuroto arrives with the Drago Knight Hunter Z Gashat, which is a Level 5 Gashat. Unfortunately the game is incomplete and needs data from a hunt, which the Dragon Union is still out there...and Hiiro and Emu fight over who will get to use it to beat Graphite, both for their own reasons.

We also find out Drago Knight Hunter Z is a more difficult game than the others, due to being made for for four player co-op.

However, Hiiro...actually realized he was letting his emotions get the better of him. And we also find out what the surgery mentioned last episode is: being injected with a small amount of the Bugster Virus so you can be immunized to it...but Emu STILL didn't know of it, which is strange. It seems Kagami DOES know, but doesn't want to talk about it...but Hiiro pushes and Kagami reveals Emu didn't have it...

But Kujo elsewhere discovers Emu DID have a surgery, 16 years ago. He pretends that it involves a recent case. Though it's the one Kyotaro performed. Omnous.

Back at the CR, Emu explains how Kyotaro inspired him to be who he is now by saving his life all those years ago. Kyotaro advises him to cautious...and he states again he MUST be the one to save him...which Asuna notes is unusual for him.

Kyotaro reveals he's been trying to keep this covered up and assumes the Bugsters will start attacking civilians to try and stress him out more...Again, WHY is the Masquerade a THING in this universe?! I really don't see a reason WHY.

Emu runs out into the city...and sure enough, Graphite is going just that and releases a massive plague on the surrounding city, infecting dozens of people.

Emu finds Graphite and confronts him on top of a building to stop him and both transform. While on one hand this does leave the infected people down there, it's ALSO the right choice all things considered, given the fact that Graphite will just KEEP spreading the disease no matter what. After a stage select, Graphite summons the Bugster Union, which seems to have evolved into a stronger form while Brave shows up to fight Graphite.

While Emu tries to get the data to complete Drago Knight Hunter Z, Snipe shows up to try and take it for himself. Again, Snipe is my least favorite character in this series so far. He manages to get the Gashat...

Pallad watches from a distance and is rather annoyed by the situation.

But again, Emu shows he's a GAMER and knows what he's doing by using a Power Up to even the odds against the level 3 Snipe by getting a strength power up and smacking him good with it to retrieve the Gashat. I like how much Emu uses his HEAD. Makes him a unique protagonist.

Meanwhile, Kujo confronts Kyotaro in the CR to question him on the operation 16 years ago.

Back at the battle, Snipe continues fighting the Bugster Union while Brave keeps fighting Graphite. Emu gets knocked next to Brave...and grabs his preped Gashacon Sword. Okay, while that IS awesome, it was also kinda bad for Brave. Regardless, we get to see a DOUBLE Critical Finish with Ex-Aid using both the Gashacon Breaker AND the Gashacon Sword for a Mighty Taddle Critical Finish that destroys the Bugster Union...and also involves riding on a generated ice path like Iceman.

In doing so, Emu manages to complete the Gashat...but no NORMAL Bugster this time. That's odd. Maybe because it evolved?...Or maybe GRAPHITE is now the monster that needs killed to cure the victims?

Regardless, Graphite IS NOT happy one of his comrades got destroyed.

Regardless, Ex-Aid uses the Drago Knight Hunter Gashat and levels up to Level 5, which equips him with full body dragon based armor.

Also interesting is during the transformation stats for each part of the armor pop up on screen. Nice reference to the Monster Hunter genre. Also, all pieces are Five Star pieces. The design is pretty epic and looks powerful as well.

Unfortunately, Kuroto wasn't kidding when he said this wasn't normal and Emu basically goes completely berserk and attacks EVERYONE. While he floor Graphite and injures him, the transformation auto cancels and he's returned to where he launched from.

Overall, fun episode, and nice to see the doctor who saved Emu play a big role. The Drago-Knight Hunter Gashat is also cool to see. Good episode aand I like hhow much emotion this series has to it.
