Commissions update, minor scheduling change · 11:49am Dec 18th, 2016
Oh god, I've become one of those people. The ones that just spam their journals with "opening up commissions" "Doing commissions now" "for the love of god I spent all my money on goldfish crackers somebody give me a commission so I can pay my rent"
ahem
I'm gonna be making a minor change to how I handle my queue, which is pretty different to how most people do It. I am a slow writer. This is a chronic problem. And while promising to do a commission "soon" is all well and good and gives me a bit of a kick in the ass to actually do it, I'd rather not disappoint anyone. So, basically, gonna tell everyone how I've been effectively doing it so far, and make it an official policy.
This is my master commission list. This is how I organize when to write what in regards to my commissions, and the rough order in which things will be completed. I'm keeping it publicly available, but if anyone wishes to remain anonymous I'll simply add them as such to ensure they still have a slot.
This is important: There are technically an infinite amount of slots on this list. it's only four right now because that's the most I've gotten at any one time. Anyone who wants to pay for a commission from me is always free to do so, the only way this is different than having traditional commission "slots" is that this means someone can work out a commission now, and that, like everyone else, I will get to them eventually.
Some questions that will probably be asked (I know I would ask these, feel free to ask your own too)
Q: So what's the major change, and why bother?
A: The reason behind this change is that I simply don't have the energy to be constantly advertising when I have slots open and constantly updated everything to say so. This allows someone to get on the list for sure, with the knowledge that their commission is in the pipe, so that they don't have to be reminded when I am taking commissions, nor do I have to remind them myself. They're on the list, and the conversations are on file elsewhere, so it's essentially a "set-and-forget" system.
Q: Doesn't this mean you're a lazy asshole who's going to take even longer to actually do commissions? You should be more responsive so more commissions get done faster.
A: I work as fast as I work. If there was any consistency to that, trust me, I'd be proud of it. When you buy the commission, heck, even when you pay for it doesn't matter with this system. If I wasn't doing this and you were dead-set on having me write something, then it would be written at exactly the same time as it would with this system, but it would be more confusing for the both of us.
Q: What if I want to pay extra to have it done sooner, or to move it up to the front of the queue?
A: We'd have to work that out on a case-by-case basis, but yes, that is a thing you can do. And a long story jumping straight to the front would be pricey, word of warning, simply because of how inconveniencing it would be. Meanwhile, a short story that you kinda wanna see sooner rather than later would barely be a bump in price at all, maybe an extra dollar or two, or if it's almost done anyway, no charge at all. Like I said, it'll work on a case-by-case basis, and I won't make any decisions with your story that you aren't 100% comfortable with.
Q: Isn't this all based primarily off trust?
A: Well... yeah. On my end, I'd like to think I'm a fairly trustworthy individual; I enjoy the writing, I enjoy the product of said writing, and the most profitable thing for me to do is to complete the arrangement as agreed on. Plus, it'd be a dick move otherwise and hurt my credibility as a writer who takes commissions.
On the commissioner's end, I work fastest and at highest quality when I can trust my commissioner. If I feel like I can trust ya, great, no problems. If an account three days old offers me an unusual sum of money for a story someone else already refused to write, I'm gonna be a bit cautious.
Q: Do you post all the commissions you write publicly, on FIMFiction.com and Eka's Portal?
A: This is a bit unrelated, but I realized I didn't establish this before. So far, yes, but only because the commissioner had either no problems with the idea or specifically requested this. If you want me to take a private commission that is meant to be seen by our eyes only, I'll be perfectly happy to do so. And, of course, FiMFiction is by definition a pony fanfiction site; commissions that are non-pony-related will only be seen on Eka's Portal, and stories not featuring vore but do feature ponies will only be featured on FiMFiction.
If someone commissions a story meeting neither of those criteria... Uh... FurAffinity or Tumblr, I guess? We'll have to work it out then.

I take it that this blog post is out of date, then.
