Fallout: Saddle Arabia is progressing nicely! · 12:56pm Dec 5th, 2016
Just a heads up on the development of Fallout: Saddle Arabia. The combined word count is just shy of 50k pre-edits, and I've got three chapters and a prologue written. That's a lot of words - about 20% of Archmage's entire body, and a 33% of Moonstone's length. The fire is lit and I'm producing reliably. I think with the editors we have working at polishing and refining the weaker points of the story, we have something big on our hands.
The only tripping point we're looking at is the impending holiday season. I know for a fact one editor in particular is going to be busy this time of year, and the other two likely will be as well. Myself, with my new (old - long story) job, will probably be working 70+ hour weeks for the rest of the year, and into the new one.
That being said, I don't feel like hyping this story up so much only to let you all down by not delivering any content. Thus, I'm going to open development up to a small team of pre-readers! Here's what I'm looking for:
A small group of 5-20 people who are willing to join a Discord group run by yours truly. Myself and the editors currently use the group for general discussion and farting about, but that seems like an awful waste of a group, doesn't it? Once you join the group, I will use the channels within to announce updates about the story, communicate ideas, accept feedback, and share links to new chapters as soon as I think they're ready for the public eye.
What I ask in return is true and honest feedback about each chapter as I make it available for each pre-reader. I want folks to chat about the story, what they like, what they dislike, what they want to see more of, and what they think the story could do without. This would serve two purposes - to curb my burgeoning doubts about the story's success, and serve as a cutting room floor for future ideas and other arcs to be explored in upcoming chapters.

On a side-note, we're still looking for cover art. One of the editors has a good line on an excellent artist, but if something suitable opens up between now and then, I'm willing to consider alternatives. I'm resolved to paying a commission of up to $100 for this project (and some of the editors have agreed they would pitch in as well - our budget is somewhere around $140.)
I would welcome feedback on either front - the pre-readers or the cover art. Also, general feedback is appreciated as well!
I'll be monitoring comments throughout the day, but likely won't be making any changes to discord or whatnot until later this evening. As always, you're all more than welcome to contact me any time - either here or elsewhere.

As a side-note, we're also exploring the idea of allowing anybody to read the chapters before they go live by publishing blogs - like this one - with links to the raw documents (as read-only. Don't want y'all fudging up good content before it goes live.)
If I don't see a good response to this blog, or if the editors feel the need to nyx this plan, we'll likely proceed with that as a fall-back.
