Chapter 7 Update, Discord, and Harmony Theory · 12:25am Nov 30th, 2016
Hello, everyone! So Chapter VII just got released, and I do apologize for the delay on it. I try to release once a week, but with Ch.VII I once again found myself wrestling with a challenging scene. Minor spoiler explaining that for those who haven't read yet!
My original plan was to write out Rarity's entire tour of the city in detail. I actually did write over three thousand words worth of it, but the more I got into it the more I realized it was just uninteresting exposition through her eyes. I tried adding dialogue and some action, but ultimately the crux of the issue remained: the tour was literally just a tour of the city. So in the end I scrapped it, drastically shortening the chapter but also making everything much smoother. Fear not, however! The events that I wrote still happened; they will merely be referred to in the past tense in the future instead of being seen as they occur.
Anywho, after I finally sorted that out I was pretty much just waiting on my editors and my co-author, and they made good time on the chapter! With the hurdle passed, I also put on a burst of speed and have already finished the draft for Ch.VIII, which is currently sitting at about 6500 words. You can expect that one within a week!
In other news, I've decided to open up the Discord server that my editors and I use to anybody who wants to come in and talk about the story, pester me for updates, or just generally screw about. Nothing NSFW, please! I'm toying with the idea of also doing livewrites, and if I go through with those then Discord is where they will be announced and where you can find the links to join. You can find the server here. Click me!
Finally, I thought I'd talk a bit about what I've read lately in the wide world of pony fanfiction. Several of you have mentioned that Empty Horizons reminds you of Sharaloth's Harmony Theory, so I thought I would head over and see what that was all about. The premise is similar to EH, with a pony translated far into the future to a world she barely recognizes, but after that the two start to diverge. HT has more of a spy thriller feel to it I think, whereas EH is more of a dark mystery. Still, if you liked EH then definitely give Harmony Theory a try!
Anyways, that's all for now. I'll probably be sitting around plotting out Ch.IX and playing some EUIV or Overwatch. Feel free to join me and my editors in Discord if you want to chat!
What I find the most similar between Harmony Theory and Empty Horizons is that they both have an excellent setting that has its quirks and is quite a ways from 'normal' while not breaking my suspension of disbelief.
Keep up the great work.
Funny, I read Harmony Theory but haven't read Empty Horizons yet... It's on my read later, I'll get to it eventually... I promise!
