Writing stuff... and music and stuff

    Hey.
    So.
One of my goals this summer was to make a fic... I wish it had happened, if only to see those people that used to be my friends and fans telling me that I'm okay at something even if I could never believe it myself. Music has been... great for me, I'm more well-known now than I ever was before.

Different facets of reality can warp the perspectives of others by the transfer or matter
The mind is the dimension above the one we’re in, where matter is the transfer of ideas, emitted by thought

Proctra — Night Mare (Ft. Feather and... me!)

When I set out writing on this page, one of the end goals in mind as I started to grow popular was that I wanted to get onto Equestria Daily. While it may be a shallow reason for creating art, it was a goal nonetheless. Well, I accomplished my goal, but not through my writing. It was for something much more wholesome in my opinion at least.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA Damn I seem to have been given a free Fimfiction Gold Membership! Wow, this is the happiest day of my life! Senpai finally noticed me!
Kinda strange how nobody else seems to have gold membership except for me, but who cares? I'm a freakin' gold member!

    Nice try, Knighty ^^

How to make a good character · 1:44am Sep 21st, 2012

Alrighty, for no good reason whatsoever, I'm going to give you tips on how to make a like-able character for any kind of fictional story medium. Why? I dunno, Why not? These are the ways that I find most practical when trying to build up your beautiful, relate-able OC.

First thing's first: take a blank document, sheet of paper, or what have you, and begin. Write down traits, start with the physical. Hair, eyes, build, (cutie mark) pegasus, earth, unicorn, any strange things like scars, marks, or extra extremities. Try not to make your character to physically complex, as the image needs to be painted easily into the readers mind. Just give the basic and more relevant of features.

Next, start with the mannerisms. Things the character says, does, acts like. I don't recommend it, but this is where you might maybe jot down a catchphrase. I would just stick with a word that the character says impulsively. Something that is a part of their speech, like "awesome" or "woah" something simple like that. If they have a nervous tick, or maybe they tap their hoof, this is where you would write these things down.

Next, delve into the characters emotions. This is the most vital part when it comes to making a good character. What does the character want, need, love, hate? What is their drive, what does the character think of others? Jot down the character's opinions on other characters, on different subjects. What is their favorite food? Love interest? Enemy? What is their greatest fear, to name a few. Spend a lot of time delving deeper into the psyche of your OC pony.

You now have a character, and if you followed the steps well, a pretty damn good one. Remember, don't make your character too like-able. Give them flaws, or insecurities. Nopony likes a Mary Sue. Readers will feel more connected if they are shown that the character struggles with something. Now for the next part: Put all these things into context.

Interview them. Yep. Open a word document, and write out an interview between you yourself and your new character. Start by introducing yourself, and allow your character to introduce them self. Ask them how they are going. Come up with questions, and let the character answer. Don't think, just write. Ask any question that comes to mind, and you'll find that the character will answer. Make small talk, treat it like the Daily Show, and your interviewing a guest. It sounds silly, but you'll suddenly realize that the character has become something more. It has gained a sort of personality, and sometimes you won't be in control. That's how it should be. The character will suddenly be doing things without your permission. Also, don't write any actions. Only speak. This isn't a time to start showing your ponies actions, only they're words.

Now is the part for action. Send the character to school. But wait, Chrome, my character is a forty-two year old man who lives at the bottom of the ocean. Too bad, send them to a middle school, cause that's the funniest. Write the story in 3rd person omnipotent (from a narrative point of view, with insights into every characters thoughts and actions beyond the main character's sights). Write about the character's day, who they decide to hang out with, the crowd they conform to. Write about that test they didn't study for, or that bully that took their lunch money. I'm not gonna tell you how to do it, go ahead and write whatever you feel like to give the story character. Put emphasis on actions, what is happening in the physical world, and remember, show, don't tell.

Now for the fun part. Write it again. This time, from the point of view of the character. Put emphasis on what the character is thinking, or how they feel about the situations they find themselves in. Any feelings or sensations from any of the events should be told in this part. You will suddenly find that you ARE the character, and you will be writing things the way they would write them, the way they would say it. Put a little bit more focus on speech than in the previous rendition.

Not all this is truly necessary, but I can't think of any better way of making the perfect character. Try it out, and see for yourself. This is what is most helpful to me, but may not work for you. Just giving some helpful advice from your friendly neighborhood Chromy.

Lol at first I saw this and went, "Who the fuck is this? :rainbowhuh:" Then I saw your profile.

How did you change your username? :derpyderp2:

372528 You just go into edit account, and it'll let you change your username. I think I'm gonna change back though.

372528 You go under profile and change your username. Mine used to be MajorWheat.

372545 372548 I now feel like a noob :facehoof:

Nobody ever uses my comment space to talk about the content of the blogpost :raritydespair:

372550 Can't I send my OC to high school instead? High School is basically the same. :pinkiehappy:

372552 Yeah, I just think Middle school is more situationally funny. :rainbowlaugh:

372555 Now I just have to try and get myself to sit down and try this.

Things I need to do:
Homework
This

THIS COMES FIRST.

I'd like to read your stuff, for testing purposes. I want to know how this works for other people. I'll post mine later today once I get enough energy and my massive migraine clears up a bit.

Sure thing! I'll actually get to it right now, while my episode of Breaking Bad loads.
Yes this is me saying you should totally write a crossover fic of BB and MLP.

374306
Haha, not gonna happen anytime soon. Still have to finish Hope in the Storm, and my next project that I was supposed to start at the beginning of this month is still in the planning stage. I'm sparing no expense with this one, I plan to have it go right up on EqD when It's said and done. Plus, I've never watched the show :twilightsheepish:

374368

I'm only on episode 2. Great so far, though. I've still got to do that middleschool part, but for the most part, the OC thing is done. Hope you enjoy it when it's finished. :scootangel:

374368 I haven't done mine yet. Is that bad?

374368 Almost done. Middle school is...different to write.

Edit:How do you want to see this?

378002 Either a personal message, or a blog post, you can link me to it.

So I was just designing a character for an upcoming fic of my mine. I was thinking of things to jot down for him, but I was having trouble. Then I remembered, "Wait, Chrome Dash has that really awesome character sheet thing." And now I'm here. Thanks for making this! It definitely just helped me out a lot right now!

Digging through old blog posts, liek a bawss.

Spelling things incorrectly on purpose, liek a bawss.

Procrastinating l- Sorry :twilightblush:
