On the Study and Application of Advanced Carnal Magic

Strange how the similar section on fimfiction and the stories within already know what I am publishing, given their recommendations.

I will have a new story up tomorrow! One of three planned for the immediate future. I'll likely have to post it while I am at work, as I am mentally enslaved to post stories at a very specific time in the day. I've titled this blog post--

    They Always Come Back...

    This is... a little awkward.

For the sake of being concise, I am going to try and keep this blog short short, which is not something I am very good at doing. I don’t talk at all in real life, and on the internet I talk far too much.

    untitled

I have no idea what I’m doing right now.

The cavalcade of thoughts I’ve gone through in the last hour were as varied as the types of sand. Pipe wrenches, garbage, books, family, screaming, job searching, Dunbar’s number, grilling, cats, soul-crushing apathy and anxiety, debts, arguments, swearing. A lot of things in a short amount of time.

Better luck next time · 11:20pm Nov 12th, 2016

This year's Monster Madness is at an end.

It was an interesting experiment for me, and quite a lot of fun. November is novel month, but I still passed 50,000 words written for October. Hot damn.

I remember the first two horror movies I ever saw. The first was Warlock: Armageddon, which I saw when I was like six. I saw a woman screaming in pain as she became pregnant in the course of seconds, give birth to a pile of offal and shit, see that same hunk of garbage eat her dog, grow into a full size person, and then kill the woman.

Needless to say, I swore off horror movies for a very long time after that.

It took the second movie for me to dip my toes back into the pond: Freddy vs. Jason. Not really a good movie, but a pretty fun one. I knew about both characters for some time, but never saw their movies until that one. Them just beating the shit out of each other didn't have the same body horror that scared me away from horror movies when I was just a lad. Call it wisdom from experience or something else, but it helped renew my love of a section of movies I've always ignored, and I do love movies.

That brings us to the five fics for this month. The game was to guess the five movies the five fics were based on. Did anyone do it? Sadly, no.

Timberjack - I started off with something easy, and many people guessed it was the 1941 version of The Wolf Man starring Lon Chaney Junior. There were three main pieces of evidence supporting that: the short description speaking of the lycanthropy curse, Noteworthy and Applejack noticing the mark of the wolf on their victims when the moon neared it's peak fullness, and Fluttershy's line when she finds Noteworthy: Go now, Fluttershy, and Celestia help you. That was one of the most famous lines of the movie, with a few liberties taken for the setting.

Death? I can fix that. - Perhaps my favorite one of them all. I made Timberjack an easy guess to get people acclimated to the game, but I picked a much lesser known movie for this. Granted it was still cult movie, I was surprised at how many people correctly guessed 1985's Re-Animator. I deliberately made several Frankenstein references, but the real kicker was both the glowing green reanimation reagent Twilight uses, and the first dead body going utterly apeshit when he's been revived. Gore was an intricate part of Re-Animator, and I wish I could have squeezed in more.

Fluttershy's Feeding Ground - This was perhaps the hardest one of them all. Admittedly, I doubted anyone would have knowledge of 1936's Dracula's Daughter on the top of their head. I did my best to make this one shorter than the others, and while the idea of a medieval style world where Celastia is a vampire hunter does sound incredibly awesome, This one is probably my least favorite. I set up the world and then immediately shipped the ship. Fluttershy's regret and hesitance to embrace her nature was the clue to the movie, along with having a very well known and notorious vampiric sire.

Pinkie's Coming For You - Know horror fan can't call themselves true fans without seeing 1992's Candyman. The parallels to the oft mentioned Pinkamena are present and helped the fic immensely. I gave away the clue right away in the first chapter: an entity summoned through mirrors by calling her name five times. While her nature is simular to Freddy Kruger that is true for the one and only Candyman.

Celestia's Curse - (Surprisingly) The most popular entry, and despite that, no one guessed this story. When I speak of the Mummy, most people will think of 1999's Mummy with Brandon Fraiser, but I'm more of a classical kind of guy. Celestia did not possess a decayed body, and only wished to join with her lover forever. The two facts were a dead ringer for 1932's The Mummy starring horror legend Boris Karloff.

I hope you all enjoyed these five stories this Halloween. It was and still is my favorite time of year, and I hope your bellies are bloated with treats. I'm not sure if I'm going to do the same thing next year, but it was a great and fun experience. At this time, I am expecting to add a little more material to Timberjack and Celestia's Curse. A lot of people wish for me to add more to Death? I can fix that., but I am not sure how to continue that one.

It's been fun, everyone.

Cheers.
