Of ponies, book crossovers and worrisome cultural stereotypes · 9:32pm Nov 12th, 2016

I have a Scrivener project called Daring Do and the Seven-Starred Jewel. The underlying conceit is that it combines an (attempted) murder with Daring recalling her earliest days as an archaeologist, and what exactly drew out her cutie mark.

It was in Neighgypt - nowadays known as Saddle Arabia. Hot, dry, sandy, and here's the issue: I can't find much out about Saddle Arabia online. And all I can create is a pile of stereotypes where the stallions are all in purdah and the mares run everything in a parody of stereotypical Middle Eastern countries.

Obviously I'm uncomfortable with this, even if the whole thing is just observed in passing - oh, wait, this possessive attitude by Saddle Arabian mares to their colts driving just why Daring's old mentor was attacked. At the same time, I'm a pasty white melanoma host in a European-run country who barely glances at the world section of the paper let alone anywhere else - and all they present is the most froth-jawed and rabid samples.

I don't know what to do. Is there any canon source materials for Saddle Arabia anywhere? Should I simply accept that my mental concept of Daring Do might be prejudiced and leave it at that?

Oh - I'm considering abandoning Friendship is Escape Velocity. I can't get my head around how to get the igniter back to REPCONN without it feeling forced.
