The Day of the Dead Anthology

The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is a now-famous tradition from ancient times that has been a huge part of Mexican Culture through the centuries. Like so many things in Mexico, it's influenced strongly by certain aspects of the Aztec people.

It has shaped the way those of us with that heritage look at life and death in many ways, and most importantly on the remembrance of, and honoring the deceased. We traditionally decorate little altars dedicated to the memories of those that passed away… but it's not a somber occasion.

PSA: Using AIs to Write and Publish Stories in Fimfiction

Hello everyone, this is a PSA (Public Service Announcement, for those of ESL) to put to rest consistent questions about using AI to 'write' stories and publish them here. This is not intended as a poll or a request for feedback. It is exclusively a clarification on an already-existing rule.

People ask: "Can I, oh great and powerful D, post a story or chapter that I got ChatGPT to write for me?!"

And the answer, my friend, is... No.

Absolutely not. Not in a thousand years!

    Because you didn't write it.

It is not your creation. You are NOT the author. In fact, you are the opposite.

There seems to be some confusion when interpreting the following rule:

    Don’t Post (Content)

    Phishing Awareness

Have you ever found yourself in a situation like this?

And then you magically find yourself in a suspiciously familiar site, except that you're not logged in, and it requires you to do so?

Well. Don't log in. This is a scam, and a cheap one at that.

There've been recent attempts to obtain Fimfiction users’ personal data, like passwords and/or emails through links like the one I'm making fun of above. And a distressing amount of people don't seem to know what phishing attempts are.

If you HAVE entered a site like this and put in your data, make sure to follow these basic steps at least.

All Our Best [Royal Canterlot Library]

As should be obvious from 15 months without a feature, life has taken the Royal Canterlot Library curators in different directions. While there’s still plenty of awesome stories being written in the My Little Pony fandom, we’re no longer actively working to spotlight them, and it’s time to officially draw the project to a close.

Thank you for all of your support, suggestions, and comments over the years. We’re grateful to have been able to share seven years of exemplary stories with you, and give more insight into the minds behind them. In the spirit of the project, please keep reading and recommending fantastic fics to friends—the community is enriched when we all share what we love.

    Reunions: A Swapped Roles Contest!

Okay guys here's something fun presented by Nitro Indigo.

Presented by me, I guess, but I digress.

Last year, I (Nitro Indigo) noticed that there was a surprising lack of roleswap fanfics on this site. To fix that, I decided to run a roleswap contest over the summer themed around secrets. While it didn’t get many entries, it nevertheless attracted the attention of some big authors and was the origin of two of my favourite fics. Overall, I think it was a success, so I’ve decided to run another one!

    Minor Rules and Reporting Update

Hope everyone is enjoying the new year.

Some small changes have been made to our rules as well as to the reporting process.

    Rules

"No attacks directed at individuals or groups due to race, gender, gender identity, religion or sexual identity."

This better clarifies our previously ill-defined hate speech rule and includes groups as well as individual attacks.

"No celebration, glorification or encouragement of real life criminal activity."

This includes past, present and potential future crimes.

    Jinglemas 2019

There's truly no time like the holidays. What's better than copious amounts of food, quality time with family and friends, hearing the sweet sound of Trans-Siberian Orchestra on repeat, and unmanagble financial stress from our capitalist overlords?

    Gift exchanges of course!

Site Post » NaPoWriMo 2016! · 2:48pm Nov 5th, 2016

Do you like to write? Do you think you could write a novel in a month? Or set yourself a high word-count objective and meet it? Welp, 5 days late here for the announcement, but if you like a writing challenge head up to the EQD NaPoWriMo 2016 blog post!

Been in the process of creating a novel. Might go over the deadline, but it would still be a fun experience.

Don't tempt me. My work shall be original. Still with hooved creatures, but no Twilight Sparkle... just an Eclipse Corona. That's totally different. :facehoof:

Hmm, I think I can do it. Pretty confident.

Ought to hit up the EqD post and throw my hat in the ring.

Hmmmm.... I do think I need a little bit more work on my writing skills but...n I could give it a try :twilightsheepish:

It's taken me four and a half years to write 71,000 ponywords, so this might not exactly be for me. :rainbowlaugh:

I'm doing it. On schedule so far, but the final product won't appear here. (It's pony, but not FiM)

We'll see if I can do it.

Ironically, I'm pretty close to on track for 50,000 words of reviews this month at the rate I'm going.

I was actually looking for something just like this! How convenient!

I don't know, I spend most of my free time reading and 50 to 100,000 words is a lot of work if you have no professional training. I've been wanting to read the St. Martins handbook for years, I just never seem to find the time for it. Then again, it might relive a whole lot of bound energy making me faster than a lightning bug... Of course, if I could bottle that lightning I'd be sitting pretty.

[color=#ea80b]On second thought... maybe I want to get a little bit more practice in before I do something like this. Sorry:twilightsheepish:

4286168 Well, if it makes you feel better, that's about as creative as Crepuscular Scintillation.

I don't have a pony story, but I'm trying to write a story called Cannon Princess. It's sort of a mash up of ww1 in a fantasy world.

4286825
Actually, she's called Corona for a reason: she was born with a crown (a band) of white fur on her head, that supposedly means she had a grand destiny. Part of her schtick is figuring out whether destiny is real or not, because she never does anything grand, and her choice of grand cause to champion for is something nobody cares about anymore.

So... yeah, I want the 'Corona' part, but the Eclipse part I'm not sure of.

Thanks for the sentiment, though

Excellent news! I accepted the challenge and sent the registration email. The previous two times I participated, I didn't get past 7,000 words a month. This time will be different. :rainbowdetermined2:

4286825 Or Eventide Twinkle! Or wait! Bedtime Flicker! :pinkiehappy:

Welp, time to come out of retirement!

:facehoof:4287789
Not helping.

On second thought, I suppose it is as creative as Sunset Shimmer or Starlight Glimmer, in retrospect :trollestia:

Par for the course, yay!

Definitely doing this. Nothing like a good kick in the ass!

Just a helpful reminder for everyone:

We've got a NaProWriMo Channel on the EqD Discord Chat (#napowrimo): https://discord.gg/eZAvgBg
We've also got the Skype NaPoWriMo Chat: https://join.skype.com/JjDQxEJdir5w

(You're only allowed in here after you've done your word count for the day. :raritywink:)

Every day, I'm starting things off with a writing quote and some fitting piece of epic writing music and we're ending every night with an episode of the greatest writing podcast in the Cosmere AND the multiverse: Writing Excuses!

And just a suggestion, even if you're doing pony words, if you're doing 50K, go sign up for National Novel Writing Month! Get all official like and get tips from professional authors, encouragement and all sorts of fun goodies!

I thought about it, but it turns out the rules state that if I get any kind of core idea, I have to immediately forward it to Blueshift or SS&E.

Thanks for the post, D <3

I will participate too. I would actually write anyway, but I'm sending in my fic for Flurry Heart "Princess Flurry Heart, Destroyer of Worlds!" and "Aunt Millie". And maybe a third fic that needs continuation, if I manage to update a third fic at the same time.

ugh. 2 weeks, 6 chapters, 30k words, and I still haven't officially started the story. >.<
