...Have Microsoft's quality controllers gone?

So my Xbox One Elite Controller? Yeah, the $150 one I bought last December?

These are apparently not built to last. The left hand grip is starting to peel, and the left stick's deadzone is starting to slip.

Went to look on Amazon, and lo and behold, the three most helpful reviews are 1-star, claiming inexplicable failures from various parts of the controller anywhere from one to nine months. And like these reviewers, this controller was taken care of, and never saw any abuse.

I can dismiss flukes, but this is our third Xbox One controller in three years. What the hell, Microsoft? Your 360 controller won a crazy amount of awards due to how insanely durable it was. What the fuck happened?

Bet they make it less durable so people would buy more of it:derpytongue2:

I remember that my 360 controller survived me throwing it across the room in response to Halo 3: The Flood on Legendary, and my first XBOne controller shat itself due to me clicking in the left thumbstick after 3 months. The left thumbstick literally broke from overuse of games forcing me to click in the left stick to run.

4278603 The only time I've broken a controller is by SLAMMING my 360 controller down on my coffee table, and a chunk of plastic came off from the underside.

But it still functioned perfectly.

Same here. Chunk of the underside came off but nothing actually stopped working, while the XBOne couldn't register any movement of the stick and kept moving me left. Try playing Fallout 4 only able to walk left.

4278636 You'd probably be pretty good at a NASCAR game, though...

4278636 The would be an interesting survival mode challenge.
Anyways, no clue. The most concerning thing I've had with my controller is that it squeaks like a dying mouse when I press the right trigger. I suppose playing almost exclusively Fallout for a year will fuck up the fire button.

Welcome to the scam of planned obsolescence. It's when, rather than 'waste' money by making their products built to last, manufacturers deliberately design products to fall apart after a certain amount of time so people will have to go out and buy a new one, thus increasing profits. It's commonly used on cars.

4278601 and 4278795 are correct. It is called "Planned Obsolescence."

Well it can join our dead PS4 controller that my roommate got with the white Destiny PS4
Do not hold a charge at all anymore.

Sadly it wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft did this on purpose because their logic was:

Meanwhile:

*sitting with original XBox 360 controller from 200x*

But seriously, I'm considering getting a playstation for my next console.

4278809
I remember that. Specifically a meeting where the topic was: "How quickly can we have it break without losing consumer's trust?"

Meanwhile you can drop a Gamecube down some stairs and it still works perfectly.

Back on topic, I'm looking into grabbing a controller for pc gaming. Well, just one game, Bloodstained Ritual of the Night, whenever it gets done. Judging by the reactions here, it seems like a 360 controller will work out best, and probably cheaper than a XBONE controller.

Problem #1, you bought a shitbox.
Problem #2, you're expecting MICROSOFT to make a quality product.
Problem #3 4278809 covered that one pretty good.
4279341 I've got an NES somewhere in storage that's probably as old as I am, which is pretty damn fucking old. I'd lay damn good money on it still working, along with the games and controllers. If I knew where it was I'd plug it in just to prove it. Companies just don't make shit the way they used it. Probably because of #3.

4283848 Fuck off with the fanboy shit. The Xbox 360 controller was one of the most durable and best designed controllers in the industry.
