    The Knife’s Edge

The other day I got a message from ZanarNaryon telling me they had created a TVTropes page for To Serve In Hell. Now, TVTropes can be a dangerous place to start reading, unless you have a few hours to spend getting lost in it. But if you want to check it out, please

Not with a bang, but a whimper

    Hey friends.

I didn’t used to believe in writer’s block as such. I always thought the phenomenon was a manifestation of something else in a person’s life. I also thought the cure for it was just to sit down and write any garbage you can. Editing should never mix with drafting, and if you can get yourself to stop editing, you’ll achieve more and better drafting—which can then be edited.

Ping 2: Live and In Person

Almost exactly 2.5 years ago, my family and I bought tickets to Whinny City Pony Con 2020. Of course there was no such con, at least not in a physical capacity. But good egg that he is, Charlie Worthley (con organizer extraordinaire) has made it effortless to transfer our tickets from that long-ago time to right now, despite all that’s transpired between.

    Ping

    I live.

    Time's gotten away from me.

2020 got weird. My 2021 started with an honest effort to get back to normal. But after I started getting treated for depression, I began to see more and more ways to improve things in my daily and family life that hadn't fit together very well in years. Including some of the core issues that had pointed me in the direction of MLP in the first place.

    Artistic Expression

It's been too long. Things are great. Really, really great. Not so much for writing, but for different modes of expression and life.

Ciderfest day 2 recap: The Recap-ening · 7:34am Oct 30th, 2016

So as it turns out, yesterday was just the warmup. Today was the legit good time. :pinkiehappy:

I also got to bite Shining Armor's head off today. Like maybe 4 or 5 times. Ripped it clean off. :pinkiecrazy:

So first of all, I got to game so much today. I did 2 concurrent Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures demos this morning, including a big battle royale that came down to Han Solo knife-fighting a marauding ARC-170 that had invaded the board. I learned Twilight Sparkle's Secret Shipfic Folder, which was ridiculous. I also got to play in the MLP CCG sealed tournament, and ultimately won it! Not bad for just having learned it the night before. :derpytongue2:

Oh, but then the prize (a couple more packs) included a lovely card I'd seen art of, and thought, "geez, I'm never gonna get that." :raritystarry:

I also did my fanfic panel today, which was attended by none other than fellow Writeoff participants Kwirkyj and Oroboro! (Here's another link to those slides.) I thought it went pretty well, and we got some good discussion going. One of these days though, I think I'd enjoy the challenge of really digging deep and seeing what I could come up with for a more intermediate or advanced level writing panel. Though maybe that would be better to do as a collab with someone who's actually qualified to speak at that level... :derpytongue2:

Okay, but I keep skipping the good thing, don't I. :trollestia: Here, go check out today's cosplay! It didn't win anything in the cosplay contest, but it got some fun reactions. And I have some better pics that I'll post at some point when I'm not on crappy phone-only non-wifi.

Well dear Lord it's late here. Gotta check out early tomorrow and load my stuff in my car before my second round of X-Wing demos. Then it's the Bronies React panel, and trying to catch Jim Miller for an autograph (missed him by seconds today)...

...and then back to real life!

It was fun meeting you, and I enjoyed the panel!

I've got to duck out early Sunday, but we'll see what's on the agenda for next year.

Have fun.

Jealousy, part 2, the jealousing! :trollestia:

Next time, Coffee, next tiiiiiiiiiiime!

Merrrrrrooooooow!
