    Speed Paintings

It's been a while, huh? I don't really have much to say on my end, but I figured you guys might enjoy seeing some more speed paintings, as LeStrange has been kind enough to produce some more videos of the artwork that will appear in Exchange's book.

    Book Update

Hey there! It's been a while, so I figured I'd make a post just to let you know the project is still moving along. Currently we're waiting on artwork to be completed. There's a good amount of it— 1 cover + 19 interior illustrations— so it'll be a while yet before we reach the finish line. For those interested, you can find a speed paint of Chapter 1's illustration

Hey there, quick question for you guys.

Let's hypothetically say that there'll be a hardcover of Exchange printed which'll include a good amount of interior artwork. Which scenes / events / etc from the story would you like to see illustrated? Please let me know in the comments below, and keep in mind that you don't have to choose just one!

    Final Status Update: Stepping Away

First of all, to avoid any confusion, yes, this is one of THOSE posts. If you follow a bunch of people on Fimfic you've more likely than not seen a "leaving the fandom" post every now and then. Well, this one's mine.

More of My Favorite Stories · 1:57pm Oct 29th, 2016

An uncomfortable silence descends upon the room, its two occupants daring not to breathe until the echo of the last spoken syllable falls away. She stares up at him expectantly, and he meets her eyes for a moment before slightly glancing to the side.

And that was it. After all of their time spent together, it was all the proof she needed, and they both knew it.

"I'm right, aren't I?" she asks, a wry smile now creeping across her muzzle.

The human hardens his gaze, his moment of weakness cast aside and his tone a mix of anger and annoyance like usual.

"Are you retarded?" He walks over to the door, opening it and gesturing for her to leave. "Go home already. And for the record, this has to be one of your dumbest attempts yet."

The little yellow pegasus' wings and ears droop with sadness as she casts her eyes to floor and begins her slow, familiar trot of defeat. He watches her carefully as she moves past him, his guard still raised as he attempts to bring his accelerated heartbeat under control and regulate his breathing without giving any more away.

And then she stops, one hoof upon the threshold, those yellow ears buried within that flowing pink mane perking up once more.

"I didn't hear a 'no' there, mister."

Again, his breathing hitches for just a moment before he regains his senses and forcefully shoves her the rest of the way out of the house. He attempts to shut the door as fast as he can, but the expected slam instead emerges as a dull thunk. The door fails to close all the way due to some sort of obstruction, prompting him to look down and discover a large stack of bound papers wedged between it and the surrounding frame.

"What the...?"

Overcome with curiosity and against his better judgment, he retrieves the papers and thumbs through them. Page after page filled with text flutter by, neatly organized line by line in an all-too-familiar style. He tries not to read too closely, but a particularly funny portion catches his eye, and soon enough he becomes drawn into the tale, even to the point that he doesn't hear the telltale creak as the carelessly unlocked door swings open once again.

"You know, if it isn't true, all you have to do is tell me. It should be easy, right? You've done it so many times before..."

And there she stands, that innocent, yet oh-so-deviant smile outshining even the bright morning sunlight that frames her.

"Anon, are "Anon in Equestria" stories your fetish?"

He tries to speak. He tries to find the strength to deny it. But it's no use. Enraptured by the story now in his hands, he's powerless to stop her as she trots inside and slowly closes the door behind her, her tail swishing back and forth with barely contained excitement.

She'd finally won. She'd finally found the that hidden road past all his inhibitions that led straight into his heart and pants. And they both knew it.

"That's not the whole story, you know," she coos. "It's missing the last chapter. But don't worry, I brought it with me!" She brings a hoof to her muzzle, tilting her head innocently. "But oh my, I didn't bring any saddlebags today, so... I wonder where I could be keeping it?” She licks her lips, flicking her tail once more for good measure. “I guess you'll just have to f-frisk me with those big, sexy monkey paws to f-find out..."

A portion of his soul undoubtedly died that day, and he bore witness to things no man should ever have to see.

But on the bright side, at least he didn't have to wait to find out what happened next after what turned out to be a really annoying cliffhanger near the end of the story, so maybe it was worth it.

Hey there again. Out of stuff to read? Here, have some more of my favorites! Looking for more? Hop on over to the previous post to find more suggestions. Or maybe read some of my stuff if you haven't already, I dunno. I'm not the boss of you!

Living with Twilight Sparkle is Weird
Written by Anonpencil
Click to Read

Twilight Sparkle is a very disgusting, very weird little pony. Anon is an equally disgusting and routinely amoral human. Wouldn't you know it, they're perfect for each other!

One thing I quickly learned on my strange journey through the world of horse fiction is that I have neither the iron will nor the iron stomach necessary to survive most of Anonpencil's library, but this story is a special exception. Anon and Twilight have an odd sort of chemistry here and the sheer absurdity of the events of each chapter really help to highlight it. I assume Pencil's intent was for each chapter to be a self-contained little story considering one or more of the main characters usually ends up either brutally murdered or in a situation where you'd wish you were dead, but I like to imagine that the chapters have continuity and Princess Celestia or someone shows up between them to clean up the mess and resurrect everyone. For some reason that makes it even funnier to me.

If you're brave and in the mood to laugh, give this one a shot. What's the worst that could happen?

Bug Bite
Written by NotScribble
Click to Read

On a whim, Anon decides to rescue a changeling scout he encounters in Canterlot castle, and the resulting bond they form ends up changing both of them forever.

First off, I want to say one thing:  Changelings  I love them so much, so AiE stories that feature them are some of my absolute favorites.

And boy, what an awesome changeling story this is! Chrysalis isn't even really in it all that much - the relationship strictly focuses on Anon and his changeling friend Kalakcha. While not really an adventurous story, it's dramatic, well written, has great character development and an excellent payoff. If you like those little love bugs as much as I do, this is definitely a must-read.

Spaghetti and Fillies
Written by Ghouls
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3

Applebloom's raging preteen hormones cause her to crush hard on the exotic human stallion in town. Unfortunately, with youth comes inexperience, and her "suave" attempts to woo him usually end up with her blowing spaghetti everywhere in the most awkward ways imaginable.

Oh boy, who doesn't love a good spaghetti story? If you enjoy cringe humor, this one's for you. Ghouls does such a good job here that it's frankly amazing - just when you think things can't get any worse, they somehow do! More than once I found myself physically recoiling with empathetic embarassment for our poor heroine. But all the humor aside, these stories are charming and well structured too, and you can see Bloom grow a bit each time. Maybe one day when she's older she'll finally overcome the pasta tsunami and win the human of her affections, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I certainly believe in her, and I'm rooting for her all the way.

A Bicycle Built for Two
Written by Jazzteeth
Part 1 - Part 2

Anon builds a bicycle and takes Luna on a magical ride around Canterlot.

That one sentence description in no way does this story justice, by the way. If you read nothing else on this list, please read this one. When I say "magical", it truly is something special. Jazzteeth does comedy well, but he does poetic imagery even better, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by what you find as you read on.

Oh, and Luna's cute as a button in this story too. 10/10, would definitely snuggle until the break of dawn. Oh, and speaking of snuggling...

Snugglerape
Written by Clever Dick
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6 - Part 7

It's estrus season in Equestria, and Anon's got his work cut out for him working as a masseur at the spa. But it turns out that ponies don't actually have any genitals, so how exactly do they reproduce? He's about to find out whether he wants to or not.

There were two tales that inspired me to actually start writing horse stories. The first, as I mentioned before, was Driverbang's With a Little Help. And the second was Snugglerape. I Dream of Luna, or really anything I've written, would not exist were it not for this story.

Try not to laugh while reading it. Go on, just try. I'll wait. This is comedic Flutterrape perfected by one of the early thread's most talented writers, and even after these years it still never fails to put a smile on my face.

As always, if you know of any good AiE or HiE stories, post 'em in the comments.

Happy reading!

Oh hell yeah. I checked your profile to see if this had been posted yet a few hours before you did, and now here it is.

As for good HiE, Bad Mondays is my favorite story that fits the bill which hasn't already been mentioned here. In spite of its intimidating length, it never feels like it loses direction like most other fuckhuge fanfics always seem to. Handyman has a very impressive understanding of the historical and technological implications of a pre- or partially industrialized society. He has such a strong knowledge of feudal society and daily life in the distant past, it's hard to believe that this story is something he works on between writing other things, as he claims. The story's characters are even more engaging than the world itself, as they have to be in order to be memorable even after going without being mentioned for 100,000 words or so. The story has that sense of wonder and curiosity that's vital to the success of so-called "epics," even after 800,000 words. I can honestly say that I'm eager to see where the journey of the MC takes him, and what secrets the world holds, which is one of the most important things in a fic to me, so I strongly recommend it.

For an AiE, the only one that I liked enough to mention that hasn't already been brought up is Trix of the Trade. You can find it on pastebin; I don't believe it's on this site. I did think the ending could have been stronger, but on the whole it was certainly worth a read. It was one of the better depictions of Trixie I can remember, and the story managed to stay pretty interesting throughout, especially the parts concerning the magic shows.

Thanks again for the recommendations, gmoh. I was actually thinking of asking you about some of your favorite stories before you posted the first blog post, so this one was an equally pleasant treat. I also like the idea of people coming out of the woodwork to shill suggest their own favorites. Hell, maybe after a few more of these or a better turnout, someone could put together a great big reading list with all the suggestions. Y'know, for posterity

Thanks! I've heard a little about the legendary "Bad Mondays" here and there so I'll definitely keep an eye on it. As for Trix, yes, I was there when back when it was actively updating. I share your thoughts about the ending, but I have to give Gadget credit - the guy came back and finished his damn story even after completely falling out of the fandom. That's dedication!

A lot of writers, particularly /mlp/ writers, are hesitant to shill their own work. I totally get that, because I'm the same way. It's just part of the culture.

But there are so many great stories out there, so much good stuff that was produced that deserves to reach a larger audience. A lot of these writers might be long gone, but their work lives on, and if they didn't want to shill it, then hell, I'll shill it for them. Every story I've listed I do genuinely adore, and as I dig up new ones I suppose I'll keep calling attention to them. If I can get even one more set of eyes to read and enjoy them, then I suppose I've at least accomplished something out here wasting away in the ol' retirement home!

O-oh...th-thanks gmoh-kun. Sorry for any tummy upsettings I have done to you in the past.
But not really.

I figured you'd get a kick out of that line!

As with any extreme activity, I approached it knowing full well what I was getting into and prepared to accept the consequences. Yet on some level I still wasn't ready. Maybe one day...

Wow dude for more recommendations! absolutely loved "bug bite". I didn't sleep all night cos i was up reading it and went to work without any sleep. Worth it tbh. Love your taste fam.

Awesome, I'm glad you liked it!

There's nothing quite like a story that keeps you turning the pages even after you realize you should've gone to bed hours ago. I don't even know where I found that story in the first place, but I could tell it was special pretty quickly and stashed it away in my bookmarks. I have no doubt that there are many more hidden gems like it floating around out there, just waiting to be discovered, so I'll definitely keep digging.

Really loved all of these just finished them. Once again great list! Cant get enough of gender role reversal.

Welp, I finally made it. After like 3 months of reading. Just commenting to let you know that I absolutely loved Exchange and I Dream of Luna and to thank you for showing the world of pastebin, I fuckin love these stories, I spent the last 3 months just reading a shitton of stories, both good and bad. And now I'm off to the Rainbro blog, hope to see more recommended stuff. Stay awesome bro.

Congrats on surviving that gauntlet! I'm glad you're enjoying them.

It's estrus season in Equestria, and Anon's got his work cut out for him working as a masseur at the spa. But it turns out that ponies don't actually have any genitals, so how exactly do they reproduce? He's about to find out whether he wants to or not.

And the moral of the story is: no matter how much working retail sucks, it could always be worse!

A bicycle built for two was beautiful. So vividly detailed with so few words, so romantic with so little. Thank you for sharing it, it's been a while since a story nearly had me in tears just with how beautiful it was. I'm a sucker for romance, and this one tickled all the fancy spots.

Came here after reading through Eclipse, again, stayed for the ponycycle.

Glad you liked it! I wish I knew where Jazzteeth was these days, the guy had undeniable talent. Hopefully he's putting it to good use.

5068607
At least there are other stories he wrote. Hopefully they are of similar quality. If not, well, that one'll stay with me for a while.

You should do more of these at some point. It's interesting to see what lies out there beyond the realms of Fimfiction, especially when it's curated by someone who knows what to look for.

5068866
Try "End of the Universe" next. That one's a wild ride.

I wish I could remember all the old stories I read. I've been out of it for so long that I've lost my old bookmarks which were on a computer that's long since been out of commission. If you're looking for more stories, your best bet is to track down the current AiE thread on 4chan's /mlp/ and ask them for recommendations, or PM this guy who is one of the few remaining active old timers from the community.

Good luck in your search!

5068898
Thanks, I'll make sure to check it out, and follow your recommendations for how to find more good stuff.

Now, this is a bit off-topic, but I don't suppose you've got a... primer or whatever on the trials in Exchange laying around that you'd be willing to share? I've been dreaming of using them as the basis for a D&D campaign of sorts, and since I'm a lazy shit I haven't compiled my own yet, or done the required digging to find out if you've answered this sort of question before. Both bad qualities in a DM, sure, but my players don't seem to mind.

5068898
Holy shit was that a wild ride. Thank you, seriously.

5068907
Hmmm, I don't have anything written beyond what appears in the text itself. You could probably go just off the descriptions. Due to the way those chapters are structured, 5 of the 13 trials are used as "flashback" sections to tell Celestia's origin story, so they're mostly glossed over, but there should be enough there to work with something if you're interested in fleshing it out.

5068947
I know, right! I've never seen another fandom come up with such amazing stuff.

5069240
That's fair. I'll see what ends up happening and decide on how to do it. Definitely gonna use it, though. It's pretty much perfect for this sort of thing, even if there'll be a sad lack of alicorns and it'll probably end up in flames. A trainwreck that'll be fun to take part in.

And yes, this fandom is insane. I've never bothered getting into fanfiction in other fandoms, and for some reason it just doesn't appeal as much as this one does. There's just... something about it. Here there's stories about quite literally anything, and the quality of much of it is so far beyond what I'd ever expect to find. Now and then my brain throws up its hands and screams about ponies being weird, and why is there so much horse romance? Then it shuts up and enjoys it, because who cares, as long as the characters are well presented and the story is gripping.

and of course there's just something about those poor princesses finding love that just tickles my fancy super hard.
