Hello there, Another week, another episode. sorry for not posting this earlier, but I went home for the weekend to see my sibling's production of "A Comedy of Errors" and didn't actually watch the episode until today between classes. Let's take a look at the episode now. Applejack, Rarity, and Pinkie have all gone on a cruise to "get each other out of their element" and it all goes horribly wrong. Twilight ends up having to play the mediator between these three and try to figure out what happened. Naturally, each of them has their own version of events and so it's a little tricky to unravel the mystery. My thoughts below.
This was an okay episode in my opinion. Nothing horrible but not a whole lot that really caught my eye just sort of meh. Let's take a look at the positive first. I did enjoy the return of geeky Twilight, which we haven't seen for a while, and it was nice to see her and Spikes reactions at the beginning and end of the episode. I was right there along with Spike wondering, "if the boat went down, how did they get back?". I do wish that they (the writers) had gotten a little more creative than just saying " they walked back" and left it at that. It was weird when all three of them sent their pets with notes, I'm assuming completely independent of each other, but I guess it shows just how similar they all are to each other. Now let's look at the stuff I didn't quite care for.
The biggest issue I had with this episode is the meat of it. It's basically the same story three times over with minor tweaks, similar to the movie Clue, but with one large difference. The comedy in Clue is exceptionally well written and is done impeccably well by all the performers. P.P.O.V, unfortunately, isn't quite able to achieve such lofty levels of comedy. Honestly, the only real funny parts came from Twilight and Spike trying to figure out what actually happened. However, even that was kind of swept under the rug when Twilight solved it in 10 seconds flat (Rainbow would be proud). All in all this episode was a sad note in an otherwise stellar second half of a season so far. Next time, we should let sleeping apples lie.
