a few of my visual inspirations for Eternity

i've privately received a few questions over the years about what Eternity looks like, so i'm making public one of my responses to one of them for anyone who was curious. it's mostly just compiled references, but it'll give a good idea of the aesthetic i was going for.

1: What is the tech level for Eternity. Is it the same as Destiny, or just a little below it?

B R A C E F O R
R A R I L I G H T

Rarity, like all ponies, has been blind to color since the day she was born. After all, ponies only gained the gift of color-sight upon meeting their soulmate; the pony they were destined to love.

This was certainly a moment that Rarity would often dream of as a child. But as years became decades and she instead found herself falling in love with the brilliant Twilight Sparkle, she had come to abandon those dreams in favor of a fulfilling—if colorless—existence with the pony she believed was truly the love of her life. Because really, if Rarity's every day were so filled with happiness and wonder, how could she bring herself to complain that she couldn't see color?

Or so she thought, until the day she suddenly could.

This is my first shipfic, and my first go at writing romance. RIP.

If the premise sounds familiar to you, that's because you might recognize it as being the "Soulmate AU" from Colors of the Soul, by Monochromatic (currently unlisted and undergoing a rewrite). This story is something of a companion to that one, an alternate interpretation of the main story that takes place from Rarity's point of view instead of Twilight's. While familiarity with Colors of the Soul isn't necessary, I recommend it either way (once her rewrite is done). It's easily one of Monochromatic's best stories.

I posited the idea to Monochromatic about two weeks ago as a total joke, but she actually seemed super-excited at the prospect, so I decided "screw it, I might as well." Most of the writing took place across three days, and as I grew more comfortable writing in her universe, my writing speed increased, until the final day when I managed to clock a whopping 9,000 words in a single day, with some of my best writing having been done in that day.

I gotta say, I'm really proud of how it turned out. It was a lot of fun to write, a lot of fun to explore Monochromatic's Soulmate AU, and a lot of fun watching her flip her lid as she wailed over the possibility that my story might end differently than hers did.

As of now, my first draft is completely finished, and already clocking in at a whopping 16,400 words. It's a bit long in the tooth (hah, like pretty much friggin' all of my stupid fics), but I'm actually hoping to maybe trim that down a bit in the coming days as my prereaders and editors start hacking away at it.

I'm hoping to have it out this Sunday, and I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone thinks of it!

Can't wait to read

Colour me excited.

4233089 That GIF is amazing.

That is quite the cover art.

I'll be watching for this!

Meanwhile, in This Game of Mine

Ah, interesting. I've seen a similar concept done recently (The Great Thaw) but in that case I felt that the terribly romantic premise wasn't nearly done justice. That's preemptively soured me to this a bit, I'm afraid, but perhaps you can bring some colour back into it.

Sheit jose! Cant wait for the read!
