Shattered Bedrock - Author's Notes · 12:30am Sep 27th, 2016
tl;dr: You never, ever dig straight up.

I was indeed featured on EquestriaDaily! Whee! And I got almost 300 views that day alone. If you’re publishing MLP fiction and want to reach a wide audience, EqD is the way to go. Just be sure to be patient with the feedback process—they get a lot of submissions and they have high standards. For reference, I submitted back on the first of August (it’s nearly October now.)

I don’t really get anxiety attacks like some people do, so much of Twilight’s fight scene comes about from Googling and imagination. I hope it’s somewhat realistic, of course, but the primary goal of any scene in an action story is to be entertaining, and moving, and tense, so I chose those qualities over realistic. It only has to be believable.

I really like writing fake spells. They don’t need to do anything, of course, but they’re fun to write. Since you’re here, reading for extra credit, I’ll let you in on a secret: I’ve written three “spells” for this story: Bottled Life, Infernal Blast, and Shattered Bedrock. In case the meter is confusing, and before you complain that the lines don’t match up, I’ve deliberately gone for an iambic hepta/octameter structure, so the last line in each stanza is 16 syllables instead of 14. I think it sounds cool.
Also, a mountain is one of those things that most people dismiss as boring and old and dirty (it is) but in reality, mountains are metal AF. Many mountains are secretly volcanoes.

The next chapter, titled either To Roost or Silly Filly, will be released in two weeks.
