Some Bad News · 10:05pm Sep 26th, 2016
People who have been reading my blog know that I've been going through some hard things in my life, and my mom and I might be homeless in six days. You can read more about this in my blog entry here.
Despite this, I've been trying to look on the positive side. My mom and I have both been trying to get in touch with as many organizations as we can that are willing to help us out in our time of need.
My mom was able to find an attorney who can help her with her workman's comp case and try to get the monthly payments reinstated. But she probably won't see any results for two or three months.
We are also looking into getting her a disability attorney, but her current legal representative told her that after she fills out the state paperwork, she won't be able to get on disability for two years.
So even though my mom can potentially find help and funding in the future, she won't be able to receive any payments from workman's comp for a few months or receive disability payments for a few years.
We are looking into getting the remaining money we need for this month but so far we've only been able to get $500.00 from various agencies. We still have $400.00 more left to go in order to pay the rest of the bills. We only have six days to get the money we need or we will be on the street.
Continue to keep my mom and I in your thoughts and prayers. We definitely need all the positive energy we can get right now.

4228586 I just appreciate the prayers and good energy being sent our way. No matter what happens, I am going to stay optimistic. I know that I must be going through this for a reason. And in some ways I am glad that I am because it gives me compassion for anyone else who is going through a similar situation. I also have tools and resources to help other people in the future who might be going through a similar thing. So I am glad that I can use my own experiences to potentially help someone else in the future.

4228607 I think all prayer is great. I'm not really a religious person. I've been to just about every church (Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Islamic, Jewish, etc) and I found love in all of those places. My mom is a Pentecostal Christian and she preaches and ministers to other people. But she always taught me to be loving and accepting towards everyone's beliefs because God is in every religion.
I grew up with friends from just about every religion and attended all of their churches. Even wiccan and pagan friends invited me to ceremonies and such. So I've had a rather broad education in religion and spirituality. And this is why I am very accepting and open minded about everyone's religious and spiritual preferences. Like I said, I am spiritual. I take the teachings from every religion, spiritual teaching, and philosophical concept, and apply them to my own life.

4228618 I actually believe that we've always been worshipping the same higher power, and we've just expressed this worship differently in the form of many different religions over the years. :) It's great to learn about all the different religions, spiritual practices, and philosophies of the world and see where the love and truth of the higher power is speaking out to us. ;)

4228735 My mom and I found a local food bank and have been going there since she had her work accident a number of months ago. So we have the food situation covered.
We are definitely looking into every resource we can in terms of getting rental assistance and financial help. But a lot of programs only cater to people with specific needs (like people with children, people who are a certain faith, or people who are a certain age or ethnic demographic).
We also tried dialing 211 for finding local emergency resources and we're able to find a bunch that we are looking into tomorrow. So hopefully we will be able to find the assistance we need.

4228781 Alright, although the ones catering to specific religion and race are clearly doing it wrong. You help people to be helpful, not to weed out those you don't like.
4228798 We've run into a lot of this type of thing as we've been seeking out help for our situation. And I tend to agree with you. Agencies should help people despite their religion, race, gender, age or other defining factors. But unfortunately a lot of them only cater to very specific demographics. Which makes finding help difficult at times.
4228874 Then those agencies are lucky I'm not down there. They'd be sucking on my toes, just because that's how far I'll shove my foot up their asses for that kind of crap.
4228882 I think at one point these agencies were created because there wasn't enough help for certain demographics. But now that we have more of an equal playing field, I feel that these agencies should consider opening their doors to everyone. Because there are a lot of people who need help who might not fit into these very specific categories.

4229061 In one case I can agree with you on that, as there are some free clinics that only open their doors to specific people. But a food bank doing that is something I may not agree with, unless the area they are in are mostly of what they cater to.
4229692 I hold the belief that everyone should receive the help they need, despite their demographic. This applies to all agencies that offer financial assistance or other forms of support to those who are in need.
And food should never be denied to anyone for any reason.
