Alright that took some time to watch but I suppose I should break the ice here with saying I don't know what to make of this film. On the one hand there were a great many elements I enjoyed for example, I loved the new magical powers and some of humour was great. However I will say this, I hated the new love interest for Twilight, it just didn't feel right to me but I'm probably just not getting it, I'll hit myself over the head to see if that works. Let's start with the beginning, 4 billion years ago Earth formed and...blah blah blah. We start off with Twilight having a nightmare about her um Midnight Sparkle form, to be honest this annoyed me, I know right, how strange but it reminded me of Sunset and her redemption during Rainbow Rocks. Here's why I'm not sure it works, we know Twilight wasn't evil before the transformation so this blaming herself thing is in character but it's also a little repetitive. Twilight of course wakes up and Pinkie gives us some of her humour for the film which wasn't bad this time. They get to camp after a decent song but I have heard better and we're introduced to the two new characters, neither of whom I liked and was hoping they wouldn't play a large part but at that point I groaned and said "She's going to transform into the monster at the end right?" and yeah I was right. However for me, what I've missed a lot in these films is the CMC, like Friendship games they weren't present and worse we have Filthy Rich acting as a generic bad guy. I should explain what i mean Filthy Rich has never struck me as a bad guy, in Ponyville he seems like a nice understanding guy but in this film he reminded me more of that jackass Prince Blueblood! So with all that said what about the powers, all I can say is they fit, except for Sunset, I didn't get her powers and I started calling them "Plot explaining powers" which I don't like. As for the songs they were great, I really like Twilight's self doubt song and the villain song was also great. As for Celestia, Luna and Flash, they were just there but Celestia needs a firm talking to. Celestia if you were aware that this was a problem, that the camp was under threat, why didn't you invite the camp directors to the school and discuss fund raising?! This seemed stupid, to reveal that Celestia had known about the camp's financial troubles the whole time but said nothing! It may have been possible to avoid the whole destructive monster attack if Celestia and Luna had helped plan a fund raiser when they arrived! It's clear they knew before the bus even left the flaming bus station! So yeah that hurt the film for me but apart from that it was a lot of fun and my award for best pony/human goes to Fluttershy. Sorry this film she was bang on form and I look forward to the next film!
Final score 6 out of 10! Above average, enjoyed it and probably will rewatch it when I can!
