These darn lovable ponies · 11:01pm Sep 24th, 2016
The problem with writing about ponies is that all of them are so likeable. ( with the exception of that one mare who shall not be mentioned. )
Why is that a problem you ask? Because I'm the type of writer who does terrible things to my characters in order to further the plot, bring tension, feels or drama, or simply because I'm feeling sadistic. And anytime I'm thinking of something good and terrible that would be great for putting in a story I just can't bring myself to actually do it to somepony. Because in the back of my mind there's this little voice that says: But she doesn't deserve that. Does anyone elese feel like that I wonder?
Just goes to show how much empathy I have for these fictional pastel mini horses when I can't bring myself to do to them what I would do to any other fictional character without so much as batting an eye. Is that weird? Eh, Probably.
Why am i writing this here? Eh, sometimes I just feel like sharing these random thoughts. Especially when its late at night like now, and I'm sitting here at my PC trying to work on stories. I don't know if anyone even bothers to read this or gives a hoot, but I feel better just putting it out there. Sometimes putting thoughts to paper helps focus the mind.
There is a solution to this problem... though I am severely hesitant to recommend it.
...May Celestia have mercy on my soul.

If a character does something canonically believable that earns a bit of pain, then that's how it goes. It's happened pretty often in the show episodes. If you shoe-horn unbelievable torment into a story just to make it exciting... You'll probably have readers for it, but I won't be among them. I'm nobody though, so hey, go for it.
4225610 Its not so much about shoe horning stuff in, but more about making something terrible happen in a way thats believable.... hmm how to explain.
For example, say, Rainbow dash losing a wing through some terrible accident. I mean she broke her wing that one time in 'Read it and Weep'. What if they couldn't save her wing and they had no choice but to amputate it. That would be a terrible thing to do to Dash. it would certainly make for a dramatic story. Yet I can't really bring myself to do that to her.
