Opinion for a new story idea

So, here I am deliberating how to approach a few new projects, and an idea for a new story came to me.

It concerns extraterrestrials coming to Equestria, in a spooky story. Now, I'm debating whether the story should take place in normal Equestria, or in the Equestria Girls world. It'll feature things like abductions, lost time, sub-dermal implants, and close encounters. like how the aliens were in The X-Files.

What do you guys think? ponies or people?

I rather read about ponies, but i think it is probably easier to write about Equestria girls than ponies. Just thinking about how to write the story with a mysterious vibe gives me a headache, because you have to write around the spells explanation on why scrying spells doesnt work and so on.
