R.I.P Gene Wilder · 8:27pm Aug 29th, 2016
The deaths keep on coming this year, yet another talented star passes on. This time, in the form of Gene Wilder from films such as "Young Frankenstein" and "Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory", at the age of 83 due to Alzheimer's.
Wilder was a star of many comedic films, and was nominated for Oscars twice in his career. Though he stepped away from acting for the most part following the death of his wife Gilda Radner from ovarian cancer in 1989 (though he remarried in 1991). His last acting role was in 2002-2003 for "Will and Grace" as the character of Mr. Stein (for which he won an Emmy).
Though I only knew him in the role of Willy Wonka (due to owning "Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory" on VHS as a kid), Wilder's performance was a part of my childhood. He will live on forever, in a world of pure imagination.
He was a grand symbol for us all.
R.I.P Gene. You shall always be remembered.
Yeah. (sniff) I definitely loved "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" as well as the 1968 "Producers", "Blazing Saddles" AND "Young Frankenstein". And, indeed, Gene Wilder DID give some VERY good performances in those and other films. Mister Wilder will DEFINITELY be missed.
May he rest in peace. Carry on your scrumdiddlyumptious confectioner.
