    Droppin' By

Hello, I was in the neighborhood and had just realized that my last blog post was a bit of a downer, given that it was around the time of my Grandma's passing and funeral. I think I oughta leave you folks with something a bit more upbeat or at least something neutral.

    And Now, A Newsletter

Huh, back in July I said I oughta talk more around here. It's now the day after Christmas and I have not, in fact, talked more around here.

So, I'll give you the rundown on what I've been up to since then. Warning, it gets a little long in talking about last summer's vacation and about a new fixation I have.

Birthday Bios: Butterscotch · 2:25pm Aug 19th, 2016

Hey, guys, remember The Rock Farmer’s Daughters? Anyone remember the part where the baby was born at the Pie household? Well, here’s that baby as a full-grown mare, Butterscotch! Isn’t she such a darling? As it stands, she’s the OC that has the birthday closest to mine (which is on Sunday).

Of course, given that RFD is an Alternate Universe, the circumstances of her birth are different in the Main ‘Verse (and not as awkward :rainbowlaugh:). Thus, let’s check out her Main ‘Verse self.

Butterscotch was born to Lemon Drop and Sugar Glider in the little town of Nickerlite. She started off as a sweet and cheerful baby, as easily entertained and eager to explore as babies are. She steadily developed a bit of an attitude early on, starting off with not eating her mashed carrots or applesauce when her parents wanted her to, or stealing candy from the shelves of her parents’ candy shop. By the time she was a toddler, she was effortlessly switching between being a stubborn grump and a troublemaker.

For her parents, disciplining a small foal took a lot of patience and repeat time-outs, made harder by running what could pretty much be described as ‘heaven’ for a small foal. It was made even harder when having second foal (a brother named Jawbreaker), and then a third (a sister named Taffy).

At about six, Butterscotch learned her lesson about eating too much candy the hard way. She evaded her babysitter and got into the candy shop while her parents were away, and dug into at least one of everything. By the time Lemon and Sugar returned, she was on the floor with a bad stomachache, and when they took her back home, she spent the night throwing up the candy she ate.

It took her a couple of years to even eat candy again, as she was fearful about having a repeat of that night. She had even tried to keep her younger siblings from eating anything sweet. However, when she started eating candy again, she tried to be more responsible about it.

Outside of the shop, she and her siblings were fascinated by the local rock farmers, the Pies. While Igneous Rock and Cloudy Quartz didn’t mind the foals coming over, Limestone often tried to scare them off. They saw her as all bark and no bite, and thought her temper hilarious. Of course, if they caused trouble, she had no qualms with kicking them off the farm, and only begrudgingly let them back if they behaved.

Helping her parents with the shop is what earned her her cutie mark, which she was content with. She started off sorting and stocking the shelves as a filly, and then moved on to the counter as a teenager. While she was typically annoyed with the antics of Nickerlite residents, she was good at holding her sharp tongue while at work. She didn’t want her parents to receive complaints about her attitude.

On reaching adulthood, she was the main pony running the shop, as her father was getting rather sickly and her mother was taking care of him. She had some of the local colts hitting on her while at work, which only served to annoy her. She made it clear that she was not for sale, and that if you come into the shop, the only butterscotch you should get is the actual candy.

As raiders from another country had been coming around and kidnapping innocent ponies for slavery, Equestria’s military was spread out across the entire country, and even Nickerlite had some troops staying around. They were mostly focused on their duty of protecting the townsfolk, though at times they had their fun. Butterscotch had one soldier, a friendly fellow by the name of Kernel Grin, often come in to buy some candy to satisfy his sweet tooth. He was a little too focused on his job to flirt, but Butterscotch found him quite the handsome fellow, with a sweet smile.

She only fell more in love with the stallion when he saved her sister from getting kidnapped by one of the raiders. Though she was happy that her sister was safe, It hurt her to see him wounded after that struggle, and took to bringing him some of his favorite candy.

When the raider problem was over after the princesses managed to resolve the conflict with their country’s leader (with any remaining stragglers captured), Kernel had to return home. However, he promised to visit Butterscotch in the future, as he liked his acquaintance with her. He would keep true to his promise.

Between Kernel’s visits, Butterscotch just deals with the various characters that inhabit her hometown. She still likes to visit that rock farm and talk with the Pies, enough that she knows more about rocks than a candy mare should. She is often by her mother’s side in taking care of her sickly father.

All in all, she’s content with her simple life.

Slave raids? Well, that's a distressing thing to have on the horizon. Still, into every worldline a little rain must fall. And I suppose by "rain," I mean "war."

As for Butterscotch, not much to say. Fairly steady life for her, though she may crack the Pie family rock candy recipe. After all, the secret ingredient is readily available in Nickerlite.

She steadily developed a bit of an attitude early on, starting off with not eating her mashed carrots or applesauce when her parents wanted her to, or stealing candy from the shelves of her parents’ candy shop.

That is adorable :pinkiehappy:

I still find it crazy that my favorite fanfic author (and OC creator) has the same birthday as my brother, who is turning 13 on Sunday. XD

This is such a great character! Honestly, I can never get enough of your OC's!
